2.17 Locking Up On IDE Access

Hi,
I just updated my Vampire V2 1200 to 2.17 yesterday.
I also started experimenting with the V2's IDE port at the same time.
Well, that part is now locking up very quickly, e.g. I can't even boot from the CF connected to the V2's IDE. Already loadmondrvs (is it named so?) loading V2's P96 driver causes a freeze, not even reset works then. Power cycle helps.
ApolloControl id=0 does not make it better either.
Any hints? Ideas? Bad CF card? Would a buffered adapter help?

Thanks,

C

Hallo Christoph,

literally thousands of people use the IDE port of the V2 without any problems. So generally this should work flawlessly also for you.

In my experience some CF cards are not so good. I think using Brand names like Kingston or Sandisk pays off - I would avoid no name China cheap stuff. And also in my experience there is a big variance in quality of CF adapters .. So maybe changing the adapter could be simple solution.

What Adapter model are you using?

What OS are you running?

Hi Gunnar,

It is a SanDisk Ultra 32GB - but may be fake, I will try another one.

I will also try a different CF Adapter.  Unfortunately, the one I bought from your booth at the A38 does not fit the 1200 V2, bad luck.
The adapter I use has the same imprint like the one I bought plus a 5cm cable bent like the ones you were selling, too.
Still, no prob testing another one.

OS is AmigaOS 3.2.2.1. I will also test 3.1 or 3.9 to see if that helps.

Why not? What exactly is the problem?
It should work fine on V2 too.

Can you explain more?

I got the last one with no cable - it may work, no idea, because it physically does not fit. The indicator LED headers for HD activity, power, ... are blocking me from attaching it. Stupid me, should have known that before...

OK now I see.

Yes you need for the V1200 an adapter with ribbonwire ...

Nobody will die fortunately and I also will not need to skip a meal for it :) .

Anyway, I solved my problem.

"SanDisk Ultra 32GB (50MB/s)" does not work with the given adapter on the Vampire,
"SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB (160MB/s)" works perfectly fine. No idea why and honestly, I do not care much. Important is it works now.
