Vampire V2-500+ - Can't Update to Core 2.17page  1 2

I can't seem to update my V2-500+ from 2.16 to 2.17.  I've updated my Saga drivers to the latest on the website (3.1b6) and specifically updated Apolloflash to the latest version too.

In sys: I type:

apolloflash sys:v500_G217_BRONTO.jic

I get the message:

Error: cannot identify ROM location in flash.
Currently supported releases: gold 2.16

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks

Hi Steve,

which core version do you use now?

Have you tried the traditional update with Blaster?

Thanks Gunnar.  I think I updated the core to 2.16.  How do I find which version I'm using though?

<edit> I'm using Coffin r62, so I'm definitely using Core 2.16.

I've never used a blaster to update, but I've just ordered one.

When you turn on the machine, you will see a "boot picture" this picture does include the version number.

Which version do you read?

I don't get an i initial boot picture, on any of the DIGITAL-VIDEO monitors I've tried.

There should be a boot logo ...
For example this is how 2.17 looks like:

Its tradition for V2 Core to show the character of an Amiga game.

The "Bronto" is from an kids Amiga game that we created as a demonstration game coding example on the A37 Amiga party in 2022.

We did hold a programming session there, and were teaching people how they can write their own Amiga games.

Thank you Gunnar for the update, and I did not mean to criticize your educational software in any way! But i didn't remind any game's icon in previous core since 2.15, and i loved the minimal little vampire logo in the middle of the screen.
My personal taste, but i preferred the oldest boot logos, now (and with 2.16 too, i have already tested it ;) when i boot up my amigas i feel like i'm in an elemantary schoolroom ;)

My USB blaster finally arrived.  I've tried today, and followed the video on how to update.

USB blaster drivers are installed on my Win 10 laptop, Quartus II 32bit programmer has USB Blaster selected as hardware, the G217 file is set to upload, and 'program/configure' and 'verify' options are ticked.  Everything seems to work.  But it doesn't.

My A1000/Vampire is turned on, and I get an error every time - progress failed.

What can I do here?  There's no connectivity to the Vampire for some reason.

Common issues could be problem installing the USB Blaster driver with your windows version. Sometimes also using another USB port can help people.

I've tried using 3 different computers (1x Win 10, 2 x Win 11), and every USB port on 3 machines.

I've also just borrowed a mate's USB blaster to see if mine is faulty.  The issue is the same - there's no connectivity to my V2. The USB blaster can see there's something there, but there's not enough connectivity to see what.  I think my V2's serial port has gone bad.  Maybe it always was bad - I've never used it before.

Is there an email address so I can send you some screen shots?

I can't update my V2, and if it bricks it's finished.  Can I return
  it to Apollo for testing?

How about joining our Discord server?
There you can share also pictures, we do all support normally on discord.

The port to flash is called JTAG.
Your V500 might have 2 ports.. please make sure to connect the JTAG on the right port.

I am using the JTAG port.  I don't use Discord, but I'll give it a try.  Just looked, and I can't find the Apollo discord channel.  Do you have a link?

I've been working on solutions suggested by the Apollo Facebook forum too.  This is driving me nuts.

Gunnar - I've tried everything with this Vampire V2.  It's definitely faulty, and can't be updated to any cores.

Hello Steve,

Hmm normally the blaster update should always work.
Maybe we could doublecheck how its connected?
Could you make a foto?

You said you borrowed a blaster from your friend?
Could you maybe try the other way around too?

Can your friend update the core with his setup for you?

Hi Gunnar - sorry for the delay getting back to you last year.  I had some deaths in my family.  Thanks for removing those posts too.

I've got a good degree of knowledge with using a blaster to update the V2.  I left some posts on Discord, as you requested.

I've gone through 3 different USB blasters, and I've used core 2.14, 2.15, 2.16, but all I get is the same error: "Error: cannot identify ROM location in flash.
Currently supported releases: gold 2.16"

Using Apolloflash and Vampireflash I get: "Cannot identify ROM location in flash"

The Vampire works, but I'm stuck at update 2.14 and there's no splash screen.

Can I return it for repair?

Thanks

Steve
