| Just a random thought: What if we could raise money with Patreon (or similar) to have dedicated Amiga coders porting games (and even apps) to Amiga? Model 1: Cash would stack up and whenever someone ports a game, an amount of cash would be given to its author. Model 2: We could come up with a list of games that could be ported having in their description their porting reward in cash. Model 3: An Amiga coder applies to port game X and asking his reward value. Any thoughts? :/ I see many people doing ports for free. I would not mind at all to rewarded them. I believe it would be a nice incentive keeping these people motivated to port further software.

| How about serious software instead? That said, bad idea either way.

Since Kickstarter and Parteon do work, I would advise demo scene approach: we need coders, musician and gfx artists from same country/town united. Spread of standalone v4s might do it, Classic clubs in existance (UK, France, Netherlands, Poland ...) might be all we have. Eventually few OS4 game publishers are skilled, if vampirezed and our market is good enough, we could ask for ports of ... MACE, Battle Squadron and Wings Battlefields. I would go for licences and Vampire or 060/RTG remakes of Toki, Double Dragons, Cannon Fodder ... like 1942 AMMX. Even Spectrum and C64 style games like .. Chuckie Egg ... Ghosts n Gouls ... Rick Dangeorus 2 ... School Daze / Back To School .... Knights Lore ... Barbarian 1/2 ... Targer Renegade / Renegade ... Human Killing Machine ... Midnight Resistance ... Manic Miner ... La Abadia Del Crimen ... Jet Set Willy .... Civilization 2+3 with all packs would be a goodie :-) Reasons for remakes: a) I hate modern reboots, but if well done it can be great. As example Syndicate FPS is a crap, XCom Enemy Unknown and Bindings of Isaac to Legend of Zelgda and Double Dragon Neon (plus old characters and classic story) is how we should do b) No need for new idea, just enriching the past and keeping playablity. Playability is our buzzword. Rights must be bought and even some Amiga 500 ports might be ripped of old gfx and music, then enhanced. c) Its a good crossover of retro lovers and something enhanced.David Wright wrote:

AEON could modernize Octamed, ImageFX and Alladin 4D, they own it now. Dopus, Lightwave, Page Stream ... exists and need to be backported. Any more ideas?

I emphasize games since there is a section of the forum regarding games and since some people do port games for free. My post is not about defining priorities but rewarding those who have the skills, time and enjoy porting games. And yes, I agree with you regarding serious software.

This post is about porting existing games or apps. It is not about prioritizing critical software which, as you say, does start with coding tools.

Agreed. I do prefer enhancing the classics than doing reboots; reboots always end up with tainted game play.

Frak! You just mention Moonstone! I want so badly a remake of Moonstone! Every now and then I browse the web to see if there is any remake of it on the go. It's probably my favorite Amiga game. I will gladly help with the GFX if anyone wants to do a remake / enhance it.

And Vampire Knights demo has nice sprites too! EXTERNAL LINK PC remake never made it. I mean, some shitty demo at best EXTERNAL LINK GOOD IN OLD Game is absolutely gorgeous, EXTERNAL LINK needs modern spriting and sound, some effects like fire and water, and a bit less glitchy gameplay. Now we just need coders, GFX artists and free time :)

Hope some of them can be backported. Many have been to OS4 by Huno, but he says Vampire needs Warp3D, SDL and few things to be viable port target. EXTERNAL LINK

| Some of them are written in C# - Does not work on Amiga. Some of them requires SDL2 - There's only SDL1.2 on Amiga Some of them requires OpenGL in SDL - Which doesn't quite work on Amiga. Some of them uses libraries that doesn't work on Amiga, or would require a proper port of it.I've been through most of these already and most of the ones that are possible to port are already ported. Here's a site with a list of all opensource games and clones: EXTERNAL LINK

Yes, Nova Coder is Huno of 68k world. Surely, we do need SDL and OpenGL as world wide standards that aint bad at all. However, getting few prerequisities mean a lot of ports. Or doing it from scratch without dependencies, but using same games as inspirations - they are all great, playable and innovative for its time of apperance - almost genre defining.

You can port basically anything, but some stuff takes a LOT of work due to rewrites of big parts of the code to work on AmigaOS. I'm currently working on porting MilkyTracker for classic AmigaOS for 68k. It basically works, but has a lot of performance issues that requires a lot of work to fix. With AMMX2 enabled SDL and proper PAMELA drivers, it should probably be usable on Vampire.

True, and exaclty why SDL 2.x+ and OpenGL should be prioritized, if we ever get some developers behind. Thanks for the Milky, nice and usable software, tried it on OS4. Hope probs can be solved. Altough I would like to see AEON republishing and updating if possibl, Octamed SS 2015 news, and no news or on sale since EXTERNAL LINK

| @Marlon Beijer maybe you can share your work. milkytracker is included in aros contribs afair, although i dont remember if it currently compiles for amiga-m68k. even though it might need some optimizations for that target, even at cost of few ifdefs around the source.
