My First Release for Vampire Next Week ;-)page  1 2

Hi!

Next week finally my first release for Vampire will be coming. Sadly no Heretic 2 yet.

It will be a new Quake 2 port, but with some things AmiQuake2 does not offer:

- Background Music (at least if you have a V4 Vampire, sadly no Background Music for V2 systems - I am using a V4 specific chipset feature here)
- Optional support for the USB Gamepad of the Vampire V4 (for A1200 + V2 Vampire and similar configurations lowlevel.library and PSX Port Adapters are supported)
- You can set 3 sources for an action like in the AmigaOS4 version (mouse, keyboard, gamepad)
- Network Gaming
- Full Support for MissionCDs and Multiplayer Mods
- 68080 specific compiled version included
- New Installer installing Q2 from either PC CD, Mac CD, Gog Data or Steam Data (Gog or Steam Data needed for the Background music, or you can rip the CD Audio from the CD into AIFF format yourselves - Vampire version of my port uses AIFF for background music, if you have Gog/Steam version the installer will do the needed file conversion already)

Note this port will need Picasso96 and AHI installed. Future updates (with potentially more optimization for 68080) might happen.

There is also already a MiniGL renderer, additionally to the Software renderer, so if the Vampire in future gets a working MiniGL Implementation for Maggie this port is already prepared (It is a general 68k port, with special versions for Vampire, PiStorm and 100 MHz 060 systems, you can choose at installation time which of them to install).

initially the following Mission CDs will be supported:

Ground Zero
Zaero
The Reckoning (I list that one last, as levels with these laser barriers run quite slow, might be there will be a future update)

Multiplayer Mods I ported (more might come in the future):

Action
Airquake2
Annihilation
Assault
Awaken2
Basketball
Blastchamber
Battle of the Sexes
Brazen
ChaosDM
Catch the Chicken
Threewave CTF (the normal CTF)
Devastation Quake2
Domination
Faith/FaithDM/FaithTag
FreezeTag
Gangsters (a variant of Action)
Generations
Gameleader
Gloom (not to be confused with the Amiga game of the same name, a very popular Multiplayer Q2 Mod on PC)
Headhunters
Holy
Jabot (a Bot for Q2)
Jailbreak
Ltk (a Bit for Action Q2)
Multigrenade
Napalm2
Nighthunters
OpenTDM
Pig2k
ProCTF
ProRocket
Q2Comp
Quake Racing
Sniper
Sog (also providing some singleplayer levels additionally)
StVitus
Terror
Team Fortress X
Titanic
Toprung
Total War
UrbanCTF
UrbanDM
WarMod
Weapons of Destruction
Weapon Foundry
Wyrm

It is not only V4, according to one of my testers it also runs nice on the V2 (minus the background music, but I am right now experimenting if I can't get CD Audio Support working again which could be a thing for Vampire V2 users for getting the Music). It also runs nicely on PiStorm. There is a 060 version as well but I have my doubts this will run that great. I have a tester for 060 now too so we will see (The installer has 040/PiStorm, 060 and 080/Vampire options for installation).

Maybe adding CD Audio might be delaying the release of this still a bit. But I am still confident about "sometimes next week".

Great work.

And a great big thank you for bothering to give support to the V2 (which I happen to own!) ;)

Maggie lacks features required for Q2. Basically it requires 3 different Blending Modes (but actually if one of them is supported the others could be approximated by it) and it requires glTexEnv both GL_REPLACE and GL_MODULATE (Maggie only supports on of them).

Of course once more features are added to Maggie, this could be supported. A MiniGL Renderer is included additionally to the Software renderer.

The Q2 port is now available BTW: https://www.amiga-shop.net/en/Amiga-Software/Amiga-Games/Quake-2-for-AmigaOS-3-Download-Version::1363.html

The Mods and additional Mission CD should be on Aminet maybe tomorrow, I uploaded them 1h ago.

Probably my next release for Vampire reasonably soon (and no, it is not Heretic2). I guess the news as to what game it is (and maybe some presentation) on ARC24 on 25th ;-)

Works great.
Just minor nit about the installation process:

- installer requires a "q2ami:" assign which isn't documented anywhere but should point to the root of the installer package. If not done this will fail later in the process, which can take quite a while and has toi be repeated.
- Later ixemul v63.1 is required. I only had v48 installed. I think it's used for ffmpeg later on. But installer could check upfront in order to not have to repeat the lengthy installation.

You are right. Originally I planned to make it an ISO but when I was told most 68k machines do not have CD Drives anymore I changed it into a lha. I thought that q2ami: is to be assigned to the directory in the lha would be obvious, but appearently it wasn't.

As to ixemul I had planned to let the installer do a

assign libs: q2ami:libs add

but somehow during many changes in the installer that got lost.

Sorry ;-)

I will take more care on these things on next game (though as next game won't be digital no assign will be needed).

BTW did anyone test this on multiplayer ?

Good morning!
I've never compiled a program for Amiga.
Copied new ixemul.library to Sys:Libs and get the Q2 installer error 673.
Are there any precompiles files availabel?

I used AmigaOS 3.22 on my V4SA.

Best regards
Matze

Not digital? So not a computer game?

Not digital? So not a computer game?

If you say „not digital“ for a computrr game
you mean „boxed game, not download-only“.

My fault!
Don't convert *.ogg files to *.aiff before installation!

Can't wait to see Maggie "voodooing"! :-)

Many thanks to the developer! Q2 is a very nice port with fantastic music!

can you explain this q2ami: assign a little more I don't quite get it?
I still have not managed to install it
Guess I also need to install ixemul v63.1 to get it to work?
I thought when I bought it that it was just install it and play...but never with Amiga hehe

there is a directory q2_install_68k/ in the archive,
just assign q2ami: to this directory. Then start the
Installer. Ixemul is only used for the conversion
of the music tracks into aiff format during installation
and the installer will ask you if it should install ixemul.
Just say “yes” there.

Alternatively i could provide an iso already named q2ami:.

We just were afraid too many people have no possibility
to mount an iso (no software for it installed).

I thought it was obvious how to assign q2ami but as
you were not the first with the problem appearently it
wasn’t.

assign q2ami: work:q2_install_68k

(Assuming you depacked it to work:)

Best regards,
Steffen

Nothing is obvious for me haha
Talked to my more nerdy friend and he said that it will probably be more trouble with an ISO than without but i don't know maybe an ISO can help me in some way...i don't know so I think i would like one.

Maybe a little more instructions in a readme wouldn't hurt or a installer that just installs the game from beginning to finish without the need to do other things to get it to work...i don't know.

I will try this assign q2ami: work:q2_install_68k but not tonight maybe tomorrow.

/Carl

My suggestion is for the developer to use ProgDir: instead of an assign
