Didn't Wing Commander CD32 use the Akiko? How does it work with the Vampire?
By the way, CD32 is the best Wing Commander version IMHO; too bad it never got Secret Mission addon.

I don't know if it can use AKIKO. It looks "normal" and pretty nice IMHO. It was an awesome game at its time.

Wing Commander doesn't use AKIKO. If I remember correctly there is a hard drive installable version I ran it on my A4000 a while back. It lets you copy the cd contents to the hard drive.

Very exciting news.
Could you give Zool 2 AGA a go, and see if it suffers the slow-down seen on "real" AGA in WHDLoad? It's supposedly a blit-wait problem, which I guess would be better in the Vampire since it's all within the same bit of silicon now.

If the CD32 version works without patching in an A4000 then for sure it doesn't use the AKIKO. The CD32 version of Wing Commander did some justice to the Amiga by bringing 256 colors with equal graphics quality to PC VGA, but with the way better Amiga music :)
Anyway, the Apollo Core can outperform any C2P that the AKIKO could do.

AFAIK WingCommander CD32 uses the AKIKO chip. But there is a patch at aminet EXTERNAL LINK So you can play on A1200/4000.

Hopefully the vampire team also has some tricks up their sleeves for 512k chip machines (like original A500/2000) to open that up to 2meg chip sometime in the future.

I have a few nice games that you might like to test as well, Centurion, Pirates! and Patrician. They offer a few different types of game to test. Centurion is a turn based point and click with animated sequences. Pirates! is similar. It is also point and click with animated background using sprites and animated action sequences. It has interesting sound effects as well. Patrician is point and click with scrolling and very nice sound. All three games are OCS/ECS not AGA. Patrician will only work with 68000 or 68010 but no higher CPU. It may not work with the Vampire accelerators unless Turtle Mode will work for that.
But I'm sure you have plenty to keep you busy! :-)
