| From Wikipedia : Paula is a similarly contrived contraction of Ports, Audio, UART and Logic, and coincidentally the chip designer's girlfriend. (AAA chipset : ) The new chip was potentially to be called : Updated version of Paula called 'Mary' with 8 voices that can be assigned either to left or right channel; each channel has 16-bit resolution with up to 100 kHz sample rate; additionally it does 8-bit audio sampling input.

I think Pamela is the Paula's and Gunnar's baby and the baby is obviously born already. But for Pamela I would imagine more then 16bit at least 24tit ;o)

If it makes you happy. The "chanel" is able to output stereo-16bit streams. Which means it does process 2x16bit. It also can fetch data 64bit wise from memory. So if you want you can look at it as 32bit audio feature as it processes 2x16 bit per clock with 64bit data path. ;-)
