| This is great, all hail the return of TURBO_MODE switch. I think I had one on a 486 way back when, clocked either from 25 to 33 or 33 to 40MHz :D The V4 is *much* faster :D

| We need 4 x times the current speed release8 offers to have a good experience with dosbox. I think we need 512 x times the current speed of release8 offers to be able to play mp4 and all other compressed movies without using mpeg format. Maybe even be able to do youtube directly on a browser hehe.

The 68080 is clock be clock a very fast CPU. If you look at benchmark then you see that the 68080 is roughly 10 times more efficient per clock than an 68030 CPU. This means the 100Mhz V4 offers about the speed of a 1000MHz 68030. The FPGA technology we are using will not allow more than this. I think that this is excellent performance for running Amiga applications.

Really??! What application do we use to run mp4 movies? When you said small mp4 movies, you mean like 1 or 2 minute maximum? If it can play 1 or 2 minute movie fine...why can't it play an hour movie?

As previously stated "small" means resolution (and bitrate as well), not length. Like with regular MPEGs, it's decoding a certain frame size that is CPU-hungry, not its duration.

| Ok. Then I have following questions to ask: A) What resolution it needs to be? C) What program in Windows I can use to do the conversion? D) How do I convert mp4 from it's original state to another mp4 with lower resolution? E) What Amiga program I can use to run mp4?

| Riva plays video files not sure what format and resolution I would say standard def resolutions.... so upto 480 maybe? I dont see much point in videos on amiga really unless some how we can get youtube working.

| Well wasn't there some kind of ibrowse youtube plug, it worked through some third party website which transcoded the youtube video to the right format and streamed it to the Amiga.

| In the past I used ffmpeg on my linux machine for conversion of videos for use with my V2 vampire based on Niclas A command he shared here: EXTERNAL LINK Quality isn't really that bad, Seems to me it would be cool to make some front-end application for Riva that could connect to a transcoding server like Universal Media Server and could pick videos from a library and have it transcode on the fly.

| Well, as the H264 is at the moment just an experiment as far as I reckon and also you still need to convert MP4 to something else, I suggest converting to a plain MPEG so that RiVa in its current form can handle them easily. I use ffmpeg for that (commandline tool) like this:ffmpeg -i "input.mp4" -s 640x360 -vcodec mpeg1video -b:v 2500k -bf 3 -ac 2 -acodec mp2 -b:a 128k output.mpg You can experiment with -b:v to lower the bitrate for smaller filesizes, for example -b:v 1M, -b:v 800K, etc.

Yeah aminet has it for 68k amiga, but I doubt it's AMMX optimized like Riva. It's also bundled with ffmpeg, and that might be able to transcode a video at a snails pace, but it likely would take days instead of minutes on a PC.Przemyslaw Tkaczyk wrote:
