| Hmm. When I bought a Blizzard 1230 IV 50Mhz and the 1260 Cyberstorm with PPC came out, I didn’t feel strangely ripped off. I felt money-poor and jealous. But that’s nothing to do with Phase 5 - or in this instance, nothing to do with Apollo team. V2, like any tech, was always going to be superseded eventually.

Well said. Thinking about it, I have numerous lovely old Commodore Amiga computers kicking about in my place. So I'm not even going to replace my V2 in my A500 so much as get a V4 accelerator for one (or two?) of my other lovelies. Am glad for the advances and also for the promise of increased production. Meantime, my V2+ in my A500 is a wonderful bit of kit that will keep being wonderful for years to come.

Mir rennt nix weg. Hätte schon gerne eine V4 für den kleinen

| I think the V4 standalone will be around for quite a while, the FPGA is larger and improvements will continue until its perfected. (then maybe an ASIC V5? (we can hope))

| Our goal is of course very simple and modest. We want to revive Amiga, and conquer the world with Amiga. I believe that the Firebird, and V4-Standalone have the same features, is a very important. They have both SAGA, 16bit Audio, 512 MB, Ethernet. I believe giving coders these features as "basis" will enable them to produce new awesome games and software for Amiga. Our roadmap is to bring all Amiga system on the same equal level.

| Hi Gunnar! I'm excited about your decision to make the A500/A1200-cards as powerful as the standalone :-) My first question is how many new ports/connections the cards will add and your idea about placing them in the cases. Am I right to assume that the old rgb and audio ports only will output the original video and sound? But, will it be possible to send the old pal and sound through the new ports? Will the new audio be output both through hdmi and separate ports? How power hungry do the cards make their hosts? I assume less than current accelerators ;-) Would it be possible to run kickstart 1.3 or 2.x when these cards are installed? I enjoy the nostalgia ;-) And, I have an Indivision AGA in my A1200, the new card will make that obsolete, no? Sorry about all questions :-) /Örjan

| With the 1200 version, if both AGA and RTG are output over the same cable, does that mean a PLCC adapter is needed over Lisa (like the Indivision) to catch the native resolutions?

To me how I'm reading it I don't think Gunnar actually claimed DIGITAL-VIDEO Video and AGA will be coming out of the same port. He said it's possible for the Audio and that makes sense as it could be used as a seperate audio device. I suspect the typical operation of the V4 Accelerators will be similar to the V2, where Native graphics will still output out of the rear ports using the native chipsets and the Vampire will provide RTG graphics. I suspect the V4 will have the addition of audio as a separate audio device.

You can run the V4 Firebird in 2 modes. a) The Amiga VIDEO Signal comes out on AMIGA mainboard and the Firebird acts as pure Accelerator + Video. b) The Amiga VIDEO Signal comes out on AMIGA mainboard and the Firebird acts as Accelerator + Video + shows the Amiga video signal and audio also. This makes monitor attaching much easier.

Is there any trade-offs to either mode, like lack of floppy, PCMCIA etc?

The default mode the "accelerator" mode. The plan/goal of the "clone" mode is to have no drawbacks. Please understand that the card is not shipped yet. This means we talk about stuff which is in development atm.

| Just went to Best Buy today and they never heard of these cards. Amazon doesn't list anything either.
