PFS-III Error Requester Popup While Copying Files

Hi Guys,
I'm getting regular and random pop-up error windows 'PFS-III Error Requester' while transferring tons of files via DOpus from a FAT32 formatted uSD-Card to a new CF drive partition.
The CF partition is DH2 and partition type is Custom File System PDS.

On a side note my ApolloOS also crashes regularly and randomly with a corrupted graphic output, requiring a hard reset of the V4.

Anyone have any ideas on what may be going on?

Hello Ben,

please update your FPGA Core to 7.2
What you are mentioning sounds like the Aros Kickstart bugs that we fixed in the last release.

Where do we get the 7.2 core?
7.1 is the version in the download section.

Sounds similar to a problem I had (and, bummer, I still have).
EXTERNAL LINK
It appears from time to time, but disk doctor fixes it.

Yes the IDE issues of AROS were well know and are one of the major stability issues of the OS.
We did fix a number of issues in the Aros Kickstart over the last year.

We complete rewrote the IDE driver, we improved the IDE device detection and fixed a fix things on the time outs in Aros Kick.
According to our tests R7-Kick has much improved IDE stability.
I copied myself tens of Gigabyte of data and was with the current release not able to create an issue.

Aros was so far only used by few people.
Each software has typos or coding bugs this is normal.
You need many people using a software to be able to find them.
With V4 using Aros , Aros is not for the first time in its history used by many people, this helps as lot to find all bugs.
We work a lot on fixing these issue.
With each release the OS improves a lot.

I can recommend to upgrade the FPGA image to R7.2

I also had this problem on the V4SA with DOpus with Kickstart 3.1.4 and FFS - but still with Release 6 (not further tested with Relese 7.x).

Gunnar, just to understand: Are you equating the FPGA Core with the Aros Kickstart? So when you talk about "Bugs in Aros Kickstart", does that automatically mean the FPGA Core too or is it really only explicitly the Aros Kickstart, which has nothing to do with 3.1.4 Kickstart?

If the latter is meant, then it doesn't just seem to be an Aros problem ...

Anyway, my solution for this problem:
I have a transfer partition as an intermediate step onto which I slide everything that comes from the SD card. If this was successful, it is distributed to the "productive" partitions. If the copying process corrupts the transfer partition, I don't care.

Lets try to sort the topics.

We know that Aros Kickstart did had 3 disk related issues.
a) Problem detect devices (time out, retry related)
b) Read/write problems (IDE code related)
c) Errors like PFS Write errors (SCSI emu code related)

We did debug these items and we fixed them.
The new FPGA core does include the latest Kickstart-Rom fixes.

Okay, then the "writing corrumping the file system" at least since release 6 isn't a Aros-problem only.

Good to know, Gunnar.  Thank you.
Will update the FPGA to R7.2

Lets try not to mix up stuff.
Maybe the install that you did has some issues or some value not correctly set?
If I recall you right, then also CD32 Inviyya does not work for you on while it works fine for others ... maybe something else is not fully correct on your install. Maybe MAX-TRANSFER is not set to correct values on your partitions, maybe something else?

This would be typical mistakes one can make when installing Amiga OS himself. But I think this is not related to this threat here?

Early days, but quietly confident. Just transferred a ton of files with no errors.  I think the core update fixed the issue.
Thanks guys.

You should rather look again at the thread in which the solution is there and stop mixing yourself. ;)

OK, the system seems more stable, but if I select more than one folder at a time to copy I can guarantee the OS will eventually freeze.  This requires a hard reset every time.

Copying a single folder full of files on the other hand seems to work fine.

SOLVED!

After days of testing different software and also just using the shell, I have been no closer to fixing the instability of my Vampire V4.  The OS was constantly crashing, while writing files to the CF card or opening different applications.
After reaching out to people and not getting any closer to a solution, I started swapping CF and uSD cards with no success, until I swapped the supplied Apollo CF to 44 Pin IDE card adapter with a chinese made unit.

      This fixed the problem.

If you have a really unstable system and no solution, please try swapping out your CF to 44 Pin IDE card adapter that came with your V4.  These units can be purchased on Ebay for approximately Au$5.

      Hope this helps some people.

@Ben

I wouldn't have thought of it. Thank you for your commitment to find out about the problem! I will test it with myself in due course.
