Mmmmm, I looked in Coffin, I can't find any actually still sold software on it. I mean, sure, there is Roadshow, but this is a demo version, not the full version. Fore sure, there are old software not developped or not sold anymore, but actual software, I don't see them. Can you tell me some exemples, maybe I didn't saw them ?
I have the feeling that having a demo version, like Roadshow, will in fact increase the selling of this particular software. Amigans will pay to have the regular key and get ride of the limitation of the demo, don't you think ?

Yup he got a sale from me exactly because of this and will get a 2nd when I get my V4SA.

Well that's not true now, is it?

I would still rather be asked on 1st boot (like it does when it checks the version of the core used, and if the core is old you know how it asks you if you want to update it? like that) It would be nice if it asked if you want to install the demo or not, myself, I would NOT like Roadshow but prefer Miami .. For my needs Miami is more than enough, I am not going to try to browse facebook on my vampire.

You mean like just put all the installers on there?

Coffin for AmigaOS is great the way it is.

Moving forward, adding a AROS version would be helpful.

Just my 2 cents.

That would be good.. perhaps even ask the user if/which one they would like.. at 1st boot.. instead of leaving them wondering why crap stops working after 10mins..  or even getting that popup if they aren't even using networking (which is more a nuisance than anything)

The reality is that no matter what you do, some people won't be happy. No matter what you include some people will want other things added. And some people won't want some of whatever you put. Others will want things configured differently.

When you get a PC does MS set up everything exactly as you want it and without including anything you don't? Of course not. Making custom versions for everyone is impractical, if not impossible.

Coffin currently does 99.99% of the work for you. Each person can then add/remove/change whatever they want. People that complain about the coffin setup come off as lazy to me.

On the other hand, people who use Coffin instead of rolling their own OS build or learning how to do so come off as lazy to me. Guess it goes both ways.

Everyone has their own opinion on it though. Personally I'm not a fan and think it's a terrible setup that's full of crap. But that's just my opinion. If it was built in a way I like, with stuff i would find useful then I still wouldn't use it and would still create my own.

Most people's issue with it (and also one of my issues with it) is it's legality

Why would I? I own multiply AmigaOS instances from OS 3.1 to OS 4.1.1 with Enhancer. I see Coffin as lazy, but easier to carefully remove stuff then to add them from scratch. Some things are nicer then anywhere, such as core update and small Vamp tweaks and settings.

Saying that, would buy anything remotely close (e.g. AmiKit XE Vampire Edition) / or legal OS 3.9+ with great Extras Installer on DVD and with auto update - that is officially supported. So I see it as needed stop gap solution, with pluses and minuses.

Amiga scene is a bit legal mumbo jumbo.

True, exactly why extras installer with multiple choices but one per category (e.g. Ibrowse demo or Netsurf, Miami or Roadshow demo ...) is best.

In other news, r55 has increased "fake value" of SDCard install.
Harder to get? SD Card is the same. Description is nice

It has a nice disclaimer of public service too ... :)

"Please note this is a service only - for the amiga community offered. and is a all public domain Distro version of the Commodore Workbench os  - made for the Vampire Series of Boards- Thankyou."

That disclaimer amused me. Particular as alot of what it contains isn't public domain at all.

I'm guessing that as the original poster who was advertising the site has now gone quiet that they really are the person behind it

Because it’s an image of a mostly full 32GB CF drive...

Okay, usually in Amigaland we are used to operating systems being much smaller. I didn’t download the torrent file so don’t know what it contains. Maybe it has the secret plans to the AAA chipset or Hombre.

Coffin comes with the OS, a ton of add ons, multiple emulators (mac, MAME, C64, etc.), tons of ROMS for those, a bunch of demos, WHDLoad games, apps, pictures, videos, MP3s, MODs, etc.  There's a LOT there. It's literally "image and go".

Okay, the large file size makes more sense to me now. I’ll wait for the 1 Petabyte version since it will be more complete. On another note when will Vampires be more common to buy? Every-time I try to get one they are always out of stock.

Coffin size: coffin is (b)loated by lot of data files, demos and emulators. It's Amiga os in all other aspects.

Once proper new aos is done as DVD/USB of only installer with drivers and sw (by hype, cloanto ...) it will be much lighter-smaller.

Plus it is partition image that includes free space. Rar just squeeze that nice.

Similar fate, with essentially partition images (all together with free space) is trick I experienced on x1000 Linux unofficial support.

Availability: vamps will never be a commodity items, they are produced in batches, as there is interest. Later next year when first demands are satisfied, I expect to see dealers having limited leftover in stock.

It's a small market, and amigaones used to roll the same way.

It's best to preorder now, save 500+ euros and pay in few months. Even preordering now does put you to some place, waiting only makes further delays in getting one. That is how I see and understand. There was a chance of immediate buy on Amiga show.

V2s are not out of stock, if a500 or a600 model interest you.

Good news is core might get mature, Ethernet driver too, Aros might get better, so you might have entire experience better then early adopters.

I won't necessarily disagree with your assessment of these websites, but I have to say that there is a market for those that would rather be able to buy a prepackaged image.  I know that if it were not for AmiKit, I would have not learned what I know now. I can build a machine from the ground up now, but not before AmiKit. There is a large learning curve to overcome for those that have no or very little knowledge of the workings of the Amiga.  I empathize with Mark on this one.  Let's all be kind to one another.
