SimCity 2000 with RTG patch still require AGA.

SimCity 2000 on AMIGA is a very bad port and is badly coded. If you want to play it I recommend you to play through Fusion or Shapeshifter, it runs way smoother than on OS3.

Yeah, SC2k even runs bad in WinUAE with JIT enabled on my i7-6700k - it is that bad. In Fusion on the Vampire it is very much playable.

Blimey, never knew there was an Amiga update to Sim City 2000.

Is it just me or is the download link down to download Apollo OS?
When I hover above the download link here:

All I see is "javascript;". Clicking the link doesn't work.

Its likely something is wrong with script or link in it. It doesnt open torrent as it should.

Hope this magnet works. Copy/Paste to Torrent client or browser
(Let me know if download is NOT right. I havent tested it as I already have r49 downloaded).

I would suspect that it has been taken down in the last few days due to a request by Jim Drew to have his copyrighted software taken out of Apollo OS/Coffin such as Fusion.

He was in the process of updating Fusion for Vampire but is now considering dropping support for Vampire since Fusion was included in Coffin without his permission and he's pretty angry. Unfortunately he blames the Apollo Team for encouraging use of the operating system and has made threats of legal action.

I think we should discourage the use of Apollo OS/Coffin and it's promotion in this forum, since it contains software owned by others such as OS 3.9, and either use our own operating systems that we have legally purchased or support an operating system like AROS to be developed for Vampire.

My concerns are borne from a fear that certain entities may take action against the Apollo Team which I don't want to happen since I love this project so much and want to see it flourish. We know the Apollo Team are NOT responsible for Apollo OS/Coffin anyway, but others don't seem to know that and may take rash action against them.

Yes, I have seen posts there.

As usual, next Coffin release can have some software removed, and some added, happened before. Best would be if situation with AOS could be better, or if authors would agree that their software is included (as we need such packs as seen with AmiKit, Amiga Forever etc.).

I dont get why would someone making some Vamp related software (and I find Fusion 080 MMX great thing) be angy about his older and not sold, shareware key on sale etc. software is included as its default.

With what you have just mentioned, yes, it might seem nonsensical, but Jim Drew is still the legal owner of the copyrighted software and by law he is entitled to determine what he does with HIS software. It's not up to us to make that determination, and by law, whoever put together Apollo OS/Coffin should have had the good sense to have gotten permission from Jim. There's no debate on the subject - it's law.

The point I was trying to make in my previous post is that promoting Coffin in this forum should be actively discouraged as promoting/discussing it may make it seem that the Apollo Team is supporting/tolerating it's use and could put them in the firing line of legal action, even if they aren't the one producing it. I don't want to see this happen. I love this project too much to see that happen.

Regardless of the fact that it is no longer being developed, OS 3.9 is still owned by Haage & Partner and is still being sold on Vesalia. It is a copyrighted product. It would be best if we all erred on the side of caution.

How feasible would it be to put together some boing bag like installer that could be installed over vanilla WB 3.9 or even 3.1 that could get us a Vampire friendly environment with ease without worrying about licensing and such?

That would be a really good idea. I'd love one for WB 3.1 since that's the OS I bought last year from Cloanto and use. Anyway the good thing with 3.1 is that it's getting some updates from Thomas Richter and Olaf Barthel, including file system and HDToolBox updates which I'm really looking forward to. When it will be released is unknown.

I am not for the law abidance - if its non-sense. Good society change stupid laws so they serve needs of today.

In IT sector copyrights of 70 years make no sense. I should be arrested for yet having some ZX Sinclair tapes "pirated" in attic (and by real piracy I dont mean use, but cracking and making money on copying, whereby I did none in life). Au contrare, I have enough AmigaOS legal versions not to feel I am pirating something when using just Linux like packed distro of the same (in terms of package, sadly not in terms of licenses). And I will encourage Amiga users to try it, as its well built and tested.

Since ApolloOS tends to pick latest and best made for AmigaOS, if I was Jim I would be honoured that via ApolloOS it becomes part of new default standard.

So, is it possible to get permission from Jim since that seems to be breaking point? As well as from H&P? (being major point later with standalone that needs software pack).

While I am looking forward (and likely to buy) any updated AmigaOS like piece of useful software, I dont get really how much will it improve OS 3.1 e.g. will at least HD Toolbox and several components be updated to lats say, OS 3.5/OS 3.9 level, or bugixed even better?

I think so too...

not because of JimDrew but because of we are in a world full of attorneys who search for ways to make easy money. Coffin or how it is called is pure poison so expecially the team members should stay away from it to avoid any room for attacks. If it is more or less illegal hosted somewhere and users download and use it it is their decision.

Regarding JimDrew, he is obviously FPGA Arcade supporter and Vampire is a devastating competition to it so I assume he does not want to support vampire and uses this case to look better. Otherwise it is very unprofessional a promising market just because of a illegal distribution...

I would invest some time in my aros distribution again when I know that it works on Vampire and people would use it

As I already wrote Mr. Haage is not interested in amiga anymore. 3.9 was a mixture of licensed components and parts he has copyright on so he would have to invest time to sort it out (if he has the documents still available what I doubt) and I do not believe he will do that. Regarding JimDrew it sounds like a excuse not to support Vampire so I do not believe he will give the permission.

It would be great to see AROS as a modern replacement for Coffin.

If you haven't already done so, have a look at that. Thomas Richter talks extensively about what he has been doing.

I think people would jump upon AROS if;

It was easily accessable and put onto a drive like CoffinOS. No fuss or expirience required to get it working.

And obviously, if AROS distro was to use CoffinOS design/icons, it would be even more a sellingpoint.

With regards to Fusion/Jim Drew; Its a bit like the AOS3.x situation, its such a mess that I cant be arsed to pay attention to it.
In Fusions case, I strongly support Inflames suggestion that Shapeshifter should be developed futher instead, to take advantage of Apollo features.
Take Fusion out of the distro, and let it die the death of obscurity, while using Shapeshifter instead.

In AOS3.x; AROS should get CoffinOS love, and be equally easy to use.
