If they were RTG demos, I would have said that maybe the screenmodes the demos were looking for; aren't there, but that doesn't make sense. effectively they should be hard coded into the chipset, right?

sorry i'm no help, but that's a real head scratcher. have you got another monitor/tv to plug the vampire's DIGITAL-VIDEO into? maybe the screen you have doesn't like the output?

Thanks, I can try another monitor, but I doubt it's the output. This monitor is amazingly versatile considering resolutions/ outputs. Besides - I can clearly see an Amiga screen, it is just plain.

I was thinking that the reason was the lack of FPU, but I tried it with femu .040 supplied with Gold 3 - same result.

I tried to run a few demos from this thread on Gold 3 (V600v2). Most work, but running Human Traffic and Starstruck - they launch, the music is there, but no animations, only white or black screen. It happened with one more demo too, can't remember which one, but in the middle.

  What could be the reason?

The reason is the lack of hardware FPU. Not all demos are FEMU-friendly (library-based FPU emulation is way too slow for them).

GOLD3 for V2 cards has no FPU, whereas now I use V4 to record AGA demos (GOLD3 has both AGA and FPU on this card).

Hello again, Scoopex 47 :) You asked for it, and you got it - V4 (Standalone mode) 78MHz running "Relic" :) Finally a flawless performance. Enjoy!

Just dropping in to say thankyou Skipp for all the demo testing you are doing :)

As I commented on this demo just now;

"The demo itself is great. But the music is just out of this world imho. Had the Skipp demos running in the background while working in my homeoffice, and I just stopped and had to comment again on this demo :)"

So while you are "just" testing old demos, you are reminding us of the old demo gems, making sure we acknowledge the coding, graphics and music talent on the Amiga scene!

Thank you so much, Mr Niding :) It means a lot and I'm so happy that you enjoy and appreciate these demos as much as I do! I myself have always tried to convince people that while demos are just simply fun to watch and provide great deal of inspiration and appreciation for the platform, they are also perfect benchmarking tools - if you get the advanced, CPU/FPU-hungry demo looking good and running smooth - you know you're on the right track :) Also when you are dealing with the legacy chipset tricks it's really a great lesson in compatibility. Furthermore, you can easily compare the same demo running better or worse when you clock the core/memory higher, etc. Can't go wrong there. And lastly - putting these demos out, recorded on *real* hardware in real-time shuts a good number of doubtful "grouches/haters" up. Also, the unvaluable benefit of it is when occasionally a coder of a particular demo steps up to actually help our cause and suggests fixes (like Kiero, Loaderror, Stingray, Dodke or Deetsay).

Have a great weekend, and oh, more demos are coming :)

Given the raw horsepower and useful extensions of the 080, do you think such demos could run at the same nice speed, but instead of 320x256, running at 640x512 if properly recoded?

Have you been able to run the Starstruck demo with the v4?

I saw the v2 video with SoftFPU and am very curious to know if it runs with a hardware FPU.

I just want to see it run faster than the Atari 060 version 8-)

The Black Lotus "Starstruck (Final)" on V4/85MHz standalone.

EXTERNAL LINK

Not yet "faster" than Falcon's ct60e but I'm guessing it has something to do with VGA/Videl vs PAL/AGA-C2P, and not just raw CPU/Memory speed (Falcon's Videl has a native 16-bit chunky mode).

Two IRIS AGA/FPU demos that before refused to work, but with the current V4 Standalone AGA core (rev. 6023) they are flawless.

Hi Przemyslaw,

Starstruck looks pretty good and runs pretty well.  Thanks for the upload.  I was hoping it was faster than the Atari, but it seems as fast as the 060 Amiga version.

(Atari faster than Amiga, say it ain't so, Joe!)

amazing. always loved TBL's productions, from "tint" and "glow" back in the day, when a 50Mhz 030 would make us go "wow!".

If there's one reason to have AGA in the vampire core, it's the demo scene stuff.

Hopefully someone is coding something for the vampire right now :-) a hi-res - vampire-only-demo. Would kick ass :-)
