Upgrading from 2.7 x11 to 2.8 x12 is a good one, despite the lower clock. I'm also hoping for an x12 core soon, but will not go back to 2.7, so for now I'll just live with the smaller numbers in Sysinfo. :-)

Sorry for stupid Q but what does the X10, X11, X12 stand for? I have Vampire V500 V2+.

These are multipliers for the base 7Mhz Amiga frequency.
So x10 is 70Mhz speed.

Not as an EXE no.. but there is a JIC one that you need to get a USB BLASTER to install..

Eric Gus: where?? I don't see any 2.8 x12 JIC core.

Why are not all generated as an exe? Can't this be automated?
I guess the majority do not have a JTAG flashing tool.

The x12 Core dont works with all vampire cards. So if you have one of this cards you need a JTAG flashing tool to get your vampire back to x10 or x 11.

Exactly! So by only providing a x12 core as a JIC file only, the Apollo team are ensuring that only those with a JTAG flashing tool can update to it. Therefore, if it doesn't work on their Vampire, and bricks it, they can always use the tool as an emergency measure to go back to a slower core that works. Smart thinking! :)

I'm wondering why the cards are so different that a x12 core works on this but not on that card.
Or is this security measure mainly for the A600 V2 where some cards are wrongly equipped?

The higher you go, the fewer boards will work. With x11, most/all boards should be stable, with x12 it is maybe 90%, x13 25%, x14 5%, etc.. There will always be production tolerances, not just in the FPGA but also in the memory chips which will affect the timings that determine how fast you are able to go before something goes bad.

I don't see any exe files for updating Vampire2 even for those who just want to update from an earlier version staying at the same speed level. I hope it will be possible in the future again. I have an jtag programmer, but actually do not want to open my case to take out the cart, connect it to my pc and all the way back, anymore. Of course, everbody should have a USB Blaster for worst case scenario, if something goes wrong during update.

EXE versions are all available and can be found here...

Also, you do not need to remove the card to program it, only open the case, connect the blaster and do the update
