this is frikkin insane (in a good way).

Rev5 A500, individual Computers Clockport adapter, minimegachip chipram expansion, 512k trapdoor+clock expansion, indivision ECS, 3.1rom in place. ECS denise.

everything seemed stable with the x11 G2.7, so reflashed to the x12 after installing Saga1.0 before flashing anything.
    113mips and 40mflops with sysinfo
    104mips and 26mflops with sysbench

demos are demos. I ran a few, but then realised, they are a non issue now. a triviality. we need something heavy to test.

E-uae. is now a workable thing. an Amiga500 emulating an amiga500.
PC task. I've only tried the dynamic executable, but able to run solitaire in windows faster than I remember on actual 286 hardware. Windows3.1 boots faster than a PC of the era.
DOS tombraider runs at about 2-3fps when updating full screen, if on the menu, or rendering less, much quicker... incredible when you think about the computation that's going on there. damn I didn't try magic carpet....

sysbench. the graphics scores were crazy. anywhere between 2 and 10 times faster than my cybervision64/3D equipped A3000.

quake. certainly a massive improvement. still not sure i'd want to play it in anger though. I used to be able deathmatch the clickboom version on a cyberstorm2-040/40Mhz and CV64/3D "back in the day". not sure the version run in the "test" script on the r43 Apollo OS is quite there. more testing required.

3 things that are issues I have at the moment.
-1 since flashing to x12 G2.7; one of my SFS partitions is reporting as "SFS" and what looks like a bit to ascii dump of the front of the disk as the name
-2 the videos are all corrupt... but having said that, the corruption is played back very smoothly - can kinda see what objects were there in the original video image...
    -3 minimon crashes

so, i reflashed back to an x11 core, formatted the sfs partition and am currently copying all the stuff back from SD card.

beyond that I've had about a bottle of red wine to myself by now and I dare not do anything more technical.

other observations. window re-sizing and moving is fast. and I mean, so fast that my screen can't keep up kinda fast. mouse and window movement is super smooth.

all in all, absolutely amazing. great work everyone. still testing this thing. as soon as I get the IDE header on my A600 fixed, it'll be that machines turn to flex some muscle.

EDIT

Oh flip I nearly forgot. "fractal". running the 040 version. *almost* instant Mandelbrot rendering. I mean what the heck is going on here? some form of time-warp rendering? XD :) :)

beyond the minor hiccups with mounting the SD card, minimon, and something screwy going on with my video files, I feel I've pushed x12 core, and can't break it, so will probably be flashing back up to it as soon as the SFS partition is rebuilt from my SD card. :D

The problem with Riva's bad colors is solved by updating the video engine.
Try this one:
EXTERNAL LINK  Or wait for next ApolloOS that surely has been updated for core 2.7

How do you select x11 or x12 ? are they in the downloaded EXE?

I havent tried X12, as I got a Kipper board without the Cap mod, but the latest core files are here;

http://wiki.apollo-accelerators.com/doku.php/start#latest_core

JIC requires Blaster tho.

From what I am reading in this and other threads I can get a X12 core just by installing the .jic file with a blaster. Is this correct?
I thought that the only way you could get a faster core was if it was made that way.
Will someone confirm this please?

Alan Haynes: It's correct. You can speedup your vampire simply flashing a faster core. But, like overclocking a cpu, there's a limit: every board have its limit. To find the limit you have to try. There is no exe for x12 core because team want to be sure you have a mean to restore your system if something goes wrong.

Hey thanks Stefano,
Silly me thought they were made that way but this is really awesome.
I have already ordered a USB Blaster and once it arrives I will give it a go. However I will do the normal update from 2.5 to 2.7 the normal way first.
Thanks once again for confirming my hope.

Cheers form Australia

Thank you for this fine Update. After testing x11 core in different cases it seems to work realy stable.... and faaaast! Amazing!

After flashing the x12 core VampireTool instantly displays "Vampire V600-128 Apollo rev 4906 x11 c7gk (gold2.7)".
I'd downloaded x12 core a 2nd time and install it on my (soldered) V600, but VampireTool still displays "x11".

That's normal. When you flash a .jic, the core string won't be updated in Flash. Please compare benchmarks or just call "vcontrol Hz".

Is that the correct and latest 2.7 update at Apollo Wiki with an executable? No blaster needed?

Yes David, there's an exe for 2.7 core update. The exe doesn't need usb blaster.

Thanks.
- vcontrol-command displays: AC68080 @85Mhz (x12)
Sysinfo: 106774 Dhrystones (all bursts & caches ON)
CF-Card speed on A600-IDE: 2,89MB/sek (3,036,416bytes) with FFS

A600 works fine since two hours with different loads (copying, Riva videoplayback, demos...)
No problems detected for now.

Finally had more time to play with this today.

Annoyingly it appears that I have a card that really doesn't like the x12 core. This is on a V600 v2 which has had the capacitor mod applied (2x 22uf 16v caps added to C3 and C6).

I get the Vampire boot logo, and nothing else. Holding both mouse buttons to get to the boot menu just gives a black screen.

I have also found 2.7 is no way near as stable as 2.5 on my card :(
