| My wishlist differs a lot to the "i want faster hardware" posts very often heard here. My intention is to get the maxminum use out of the hardware i own. I hate to google every needed information bit to make a puzzle of needed informations complete. In the good old 80ies homecomputer area, i got a complete set of hardware, OS, and documentation to start with because there was no internet to google something. This leads me to my wichlist : 1. a ready to install Amiga OS 3."whatever version" optimised for Apollo Vampire Amigas as CF image or whatever reasonable for a quick setup. All patches/driver included to start immediate with my new purchased hardware. And other users should have the same starting point to form a uniform user experience. 2. a users manual describing the OS 3."whatever" from a users perspective with recommended steps to fullfill the daily tasks dealing with the OS 3. a technical manual for advanced users for more sophisticated tasks like scripting/personalisation of the OS 4. a programmers manual to develop applications for the Vampire V2/V4 hardware and using the full potential of the features without a consideration of backwards compatibility to Vampire-free Amigas 5. development tools to programm inside of OS 3."whatever" natively. Some remarks to my wishlist:
The Apollo Core / Vampire is in its FPGA nature a moving target concerning documentation. Improvement is desirable, but to keep the above wishes up to date, it needs some extra work. Make me pay for it, i am willing to pay. An online wiki with paywall for example. Registration for FPGA firmware updates is already comming, expand it with the above features. A subscription for DevTools updates is very common for niche products to avoid too high hardware prices. And a differentiation between consumers / advanced users and developers shows team Apollo what their customers want and like to pay for. Include it in the hardware purchase or as an extra feature. Reflect the impact of the numerous distros / Desktop managers to the Linux community to the overall user experience.
A uniform Amiga OS for vampirised Amigas will be a giant leap forward IMHO. A lot of people will moan, but a uniform starting point does not ban customisation. If the Amiga flower should evolve and grow, the users need to water and fertilize it with their hard earned money or voluntary work. There is no tooth fairy who makes wishes come true if you make a wish in the forum. I hope that most users grant the creators of the Vampire Accelerator that they may make their living with this project in the future. I could add this to my wishlist. Can someone else agree to my wishes or why do you disagree ?
Some buzzwords to argue about are e.g.
Amiga Vampire OS include AmiKit X + WHDLoad + ... delivered on a ready to boot flash drive makes me pay xxx €
I want these software features included in the hardware purchase, because ....
I do not need these software features included in the hardware purchase because i dont need it, want to do it by myself ... Best regards,
