Few Questions to Majsta

Hi
I have read this interview:
EXTERNAL LINK  And I am surprised that Majsta is a geographer! So:
1. How is this possible that geographer is able to build sophisticated electronic boards? (which extends Amigas).
2. Are you purely "digital" electronic? Or maybe do you have some "analog" bacground?
3. How (software) tool do you use from the beginning design Vampires? Is it possible to do this with open source?

thank you

Does being a geographer mean that one is too stupid to do electronics? No, of course not. I guess it's just reading, learning, trying and being persistent about it. Perhaps more people should do that and not just shy away saying "I can't, I'm just a ...".

From my observation Igor likes to try new stuff (some would say "go on a tangent") with a lot of others watching and rolling their eyes thinking "why doesn't he leave this to the people who actually know how to do it..." :o)

2. Are you purely "digital" electronic? Or maybe do you have some "analog" bacground?

Is this question related to the first question? Analogue circuit designers like to think of their art as being far more complex than digital circuit design. Of course, you can pursue both analogue and digital (and mixed-signals for that matter) design on a very simple or very complex level.

3. How (software) tool do you use from the beginning design Vampires? Is it possible to do this with open source?

AFAIK Igor uses some commercial Windows software but the v4 was designed using KiCad. So yes, it is possible doing this with open source.

Hi, I ll try to explain.

    1. Well, story is maybe strange but electronics was always my hobby. I think that first time I did some soldering on my own etched PCB at age of 12 or maybe earlier. In my street there are lot of engineers or people who have electronics for hobby. Later on I have finished high school for telecommunications where we learned how to do design PCB, programming, and for two years I had digital electronics. Everything that there is regarding electronics we have learned in high school. Later on when my plan was to become engineer my country went into transition times so I realized that I will need to make another choice. So this is just come back. What's different here is my way of work. It is based on principle do first and learn later. Engineers tend to aim for perfection and because of that lot of project fails. Vampire cards I did are not perfect and maybe when some good engineer look at them says that they are worst thing someone designed, that some capacitor is missing and that some things could be done better.

    2. Projects related to WiFi antennas, FM transmitters...

    3. Since I had no tools I had to make my own so Vampire card acts like Logic Analyzer. As for software, I m using Altium for PCB and for coding Quartus but as everyone knows for coding you need some text editor. On my website you have opensourced schematics and code for Vampire V1 and that's very good start if you are interested into this.

Another very important question for Majsta:

-What is your favorite faction in Open RA? :)

@Majsta:
From your story and achievements I must admit, that you got better education in your country devastated by war than I in my peaceful country (Poland)...
This is obvious to me that our education system is one big crap...

Well, near me was huge factory with about 10 000 workers. They produced anything from TV sets to rockets, avionics etc...
I had practice there on PCBA but somewhere around year 2000 all broke apart. All of the people are still without job. World class engineers ended with 150Eur per month. Our education system was good for those who want's to learn. Now after some reforms is pure shit, wasting of time in most cases. Right now we are first country in the world by numbers of unemployment people. Last 2 years I spend to learn C++ at the university, in the complete city they were 9-10 people interested to learn from 55 000 those who don't have job. Same was with other classes related to 3D modeling and such... So interest is very low to change something for yourself.

@Lord Aga hi :)
Don't play open RA, played only 2 times to see am i still good.
Like i said, RA is the only thing I admire on PC. That should be Amiga stuff definitely.
