Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a CD32 which of course begs the question of whether I can get a Vampire 2 for it. Kipper2k said he had it on his wishlist - did that ever come to anything?

Finishing all the preordered V600 boards made all other Kipper projects on hold. ( That and getting his hand operated )

Maybe he will have more time to tinker when demand is met.
A Vampire CD32 version is not yet even started to my knowledge.
But surly possible in the future.

CD32 is cursed, no stuff ever comes out for it ;-)

First question: Do you already own an A1200?
Second question: What do you envision doing with the accelerated CD32? Play original CD32 games as well as WHDLoad?

Because it's there!

Seriously though, like the A600 it has limited expansion options so an all-in-one solution like the Vampire is ideal. It gives sd card, hdmi, oodles of Fast mem, a smokin' hot accelerated CPU and, if it follows the V500+ route, IDE.

Really, the CD32 and Vampire are prefect for each other.

The CD32 is my preferred system. I could never afford an SX addon for it though so it is pretty limited other than it's original purpose. What's not to love about a compact amiga with build in CD drive?

Hope the vampire-team will focus on

- V1200
- Stand-alone system

Well, I agree more or less, but as long as you remember that you are still going to miss some CIA stuff so its going to be a limited Amiga, even with Vampire.

The CD32 connector is also much easier to find, so it would probably be easier to do than the V1200. However, there is that small detail of CD32 being a niche system with few users compared to 500/600/1200.

The SX-1 has CIAs on it; presumably a Vampire CD32 could have something equivalent.

I'll grant that it's a niche market within a niche market but there are no other competitors (other accelerators are available for all other Amigas, both new and vintage).

Anyway, I'll get a CD32 and hope that the vampire comes to it eventually

I have a CD32 and would like a Vampire for it.

I think the niche market issue's the biggest drawback, but I've got a plan:

If the team agree to make a CD32 version, I'll not only buy one of those, I'll buy an A1200 version too.

...and I don't even have an A1200 at the minute. ;)

Another alternative, (as previously discussed at EAB) would of course be to make an adapter for the CD32 to accept V1200. About the same Jens is doing with ACA500+ accepting A1200 accelerators, but also adding a few bells and whistles..

Such an adapter could use a small cheap FPGA for missing CIA functionality (and possibly some SRAM hack ;-)
Such adapter would actually be more useful than a Vampire CD32 as it would also give upgrade options to other CD32 owners who want to add other standard 1200 cards *as well* as V1200. Then the Apollo team would have one less niche version to worry/care about.
Several(?) people (kipper2k etc) are already dong/selling reversed CD32 connector so that an expansion card would attach inside the CD32. (Up to a certain size of course, but most new accelerators are small.)

Well, I'm about to close the deal on a CD32, so I bloody hope a vampire³² is forthcoming ;)

Hope yes, but always remember you go into this with zero actual promises about V-CD32 from the Apollo team. ;-)

Quite. I have room for another amiga in any case. As should everyone!

The planned standalone version will need to implement the CIAs so not really an issue.

Depending on what legacy ports are implemented the standalone may only need a very minimal version of the CIAs (just to handle the left/fire buttons and keyboard) as already implemented on the CD32 Akiko custom chip. Full CIAs are only needed if you add floppy, parallel and serial ports.

Will the standalone have ide that can take a dvd drive as well as HD?

Will that be in a separate FPGA?
Possible reasons:
*You don't want to waste Logical units in main FPGA for stuff only some products will use (Standalone and a hypothetical CD32 version)
*Not enough pins to technically be able to wire it all up properly, so a separate FPGA with its own pins is needed?

Reason I ask is related to a possible CD32 adapter - just to keep us dreaming ;-)
