| Though it may be possible to have a Vampire PCI card and it would be a really cool idea, will it provide any advantage to using UAE (or UAE variants) for running legacy Amiga software and games? Maybe not if FPGA form, but a fast 68080 ASIC might make it worthwhile? (But a Vampire PCI card is interesting). However, someone earlier had an interesting concept. The Panasonic 3DO was a game console similar in functionality to a CD32? The standalone Apollo board will be small enough to fit in a 5"x5" custom 3D printed case. That's about the size of a CD Jewel Case. It might look like this: EXTERNAL LINK This is the ARMIGA. I believe it uses an ARM processor and maybe a variant of UAE to play legacy AMIGA games. Why can't we use the Apollo standalone board for something like this? I wonder how the speed and usability would compare between Apollo 68080 + SAGA vs. Armiga + UAE? If nothing else, the 3D printed case is very cool looking! It would be very small and very portable. We could take our Amiga games console (and Amiga compatible computer) with use wherever we go. Who needs an Amiga laptop when we will have an Amiga portable? ;-)

We may not be able to predict it but we can certainly create it. The Vampire offers one option to bridge the performance gap between legacy and modern hardware, making the architecture largely irrelevant. It's time for the software to start catching up.

| my impression is that armiga is rather slow and it has never really took off. the case looks cool, but its not the first attempt to fit amiga compatible system into a floppy case, there was "access" years ago.

I think we all appreciate the desire to maintain a high signal to noise ratio and yet encourage discussion among current and prospective buyers. The lack of information is the issue - there is no shortage of conjecture and opinion. There are perfectly valid reasons why this topic keeps coming up and they certainly fall within the realm of the original thread: If you are considering a Vampire purchase and need to run 4.1, it's currently not an option - not a technical limitation. By all accounts, it sounds like the Vampire team did have dialogue with Hyperion and they indicated that Vampire support for the OS was not on their road map. If people want to see 4.1 on the Vampire, they need to encourage Hyperion to make that happen. So... at this point, it's a +1 for UAE.

exactly. people have been offered solutions. if you need os4, buy a dedicated hardware. if you want vampire, buy it. stop bashing the developers not fulfilling every wish you might happen to have.

As individuals it would be quite difficult to influence Hyperion or any commercial company to invest time, money and resources in the Amiga OS 68k. However, as a group we could buy lots of Apollo products! Then they might change their minds when the market grows. :-) As for UAE (and variants) it's a great tool and it will be with us for quite a while. That's a good thing!
