Just Saying "Thank You"

All I wanted to say is a big THANK YOU to all involved in this great project.

I can not contribute (beside with buying the Vampire) to the project itself - unfortunately I have no spare time at the moment.

But I just wanted to say that you guys rock! It's awesome to see all the work you put into the accelerators and the stand alone board.

You make a lot of happy people! :-)

Thanks a lot!

Do you have any idea what your position in line was at the time you expressed interest? just trying to see where they are in the v500 queue.. thanks!

I signed up for my Vampire 500 v2+ on Dec4, 2016. But I haven't been notified yet. I haven't received mine yet.

I suppose if we really wanted to say thank you and show support for the Apollo development team we could set up a page for donations for the Apollo Core projects. Maybe they could use the money for packaging or advertising or as bonuses for the design team for their hard work and dedication to the Amiga platform. Just a thought.

Hello Michael R,

Could we just send money to the Apollo Core Team somehow?

Otherwise, Raffaele over on AmigaWorld.Net, from what I read, seems to run Amiga bounties to raise money for when a certain project gets completed, the software author gets paid.

Not the same thing, but perhaps a pooling of money there, and then it's sent as a lump sum amount to Apollo Core Team about once every 3 months? (There is no target for them to get that money, it's just sent to them periodically.)

In that scenario, people could see if there are people supporting the project or not, because he publicly shows how much has been raised.

I asked before, if people would want to contribute to the awarding of a Vampire standalone motherboard to someone that could greatly help the community if it got into their hands, but that guy was reluctant to "get back into the scene" for whatever reason. Someone such as Dave Haynie, for example.

Would an enhanced recompiled version of Rebol be something desirable to have?

If a lot of money was raised, maybe they would use it for that, or possibly enough to make an ASIC?

Of course, they could just use it to reward themselves for all of the time and grunt work they put into delivering a FABULOUS project to us, too.

(It would be better if they made an ASIC and expected us to send them MORE money. :-D)

I don't know how to set that up but I would donate to show my support for the Apollo Team, especially if it would help to expedite the production process or to inspire and encourage them to do more great things along these lines! If we compare to other Amiga accelerators the Apollo Team isn't asking much for the Vampire series compared to what it can do. I have a feeling my Vampire a500 v2+ will be ready soon or I would have bought one from Majsta on ebay. Even if the Vamire a1200 v2 comes in two flavors, low end for $350 and high end using something like Arria 10 for $500 that would be great for us! Imagine if someone like Dave Haynie were to collaborate with the Apollo Team working to enhance the Super-AGA chipset! But I have much faith in the Apollo design team. They can achieve the same great things in due time! The Vampire accelerators has been what the Amiga was waiting for all these years! Maybe now developers Will also be encouraged to return to 68k Classic Amigas and something like AROS 68k could be expanded and improved for Classic Amigas? Maybe we could donate to inspire them?

Great idea about the donations. :D
But I tbink a bounty would be also useful, because the Apollo Team is on the lookout for drivers for their expansion ports and for the ESP8266 and SDNet.
To put up a bounty we would need the specs of what's needed from the Apollo Team.
Hope that the Apollo Team can share this with us, so that the community can help in this endeavor.

Thanks No Retro! Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help us to set up a place to make Thank You Donations for the team. I was thinking also about drivers for new components as well. That's a great idea. Also we could consider bounties for improvements to Amiga IS 3.x applications that benefit from Vampire accelerators such as graphics programs and video programs like Riva. Maybe bounties for nice Vampire Demos that really show off the power and speed of Vampire! And a really good looking and accurate, more modern Benchmark program. Just some more things to consider.

A bounty sounds like a very good idea. It would help the Vampire team by getting more people to work on the software which in turn would make the product even more valuable. They probably need working hands more than money at this point. :-)

Even the most impressive hardware is worth nothing if there is no software available for it, so it would be very nice to have someone develop some good drivers for those components.

Regarding benchmarks, what is wrong with sortbench and the other benches out there? We don't really need more benchmarks to tell us that the 68080 is awesome. :)

Aksel Andersen, I'm curious. Do they allow us to pay using PayPal? That's my preferred method of payment these days.

Well, why a donations page, if we can paypal them money direct. Do they lose 4% in those transactions?
