Hallo,

  Krzysztof

Hello Krzysztof,

Yes the Firebird can in theory be used in an A600 with an adapter.
Saying this, I have not doublechecked the layout and wiring of the adapter that you posted, therefore I can not ensure you that this model works.

The Firebird is designed with all CPU functions to support both, the CPU handshaking which is needed in the A600 and to support external DMA which is needed to for some Zorro2 cards in the Amiga 2000.

Hi Gunar,
this great news. But let's say I would purchase the card it wouldn't work, would be there some support to make it run?

Hello Krzysztof,

Yes the Firebird should work with the A600.
And we of course will support people wanting to run it.

But please mind, that I did not review the adapter you posted.
I can not guarantee you that this adapter works with the Firebird.
On the A500 and A600 two signals are swapped.
I did not review if the adapter does swap them already or not.

Also please mind that the physical connection to the A600 CPU is sometimes a challenge. The A600 was not designed by Commodore to be expanded, and in my experience unfortunately the piggyback connection used to connect this adapter could sometimes get loose.

Would it help if I would send you such an adapter?
And yes I'm aware of the connection problem :/

Will be nice if you can test it and let us know if this is possible :) I have  A600 tower with 600 V2. But this new cards are so promising :)

As noted in the 2nd link, there may be clearance issues between the underside of the A600 keyboard and this adapter with the Firebird mounted on it.

I believe, that technically the Firebird would just work fine in A600.
But I agree that this adapter might have a clearance issue, maybe.

Fact is that A600 is a difficult platform.
The A600 is not designed to be expanded and the connection over the CPU socket has problems on some A600.

If someone likes to make a special adapter for Firebird, then talk to us.
We could also consider to make a Firebird (Salamander) Version special for A600 if there is enough demand.

I will be interested with Firebird (Salamander) or version with adapter(will prefer to buy as a set and have to be solid in place:). This new card is much better cos you can use only hdmi output for old games. Is very modern for amiga :)

If the A600 Salamander version were to be made I think it would be the best option as these adapters can be unstable and pop off the socket over time. So I would be interested in buying one.

Yeah, if the Apollo Team ever decided to produce a dedicated A600 version, I would definitely get one. But I do understand the problems involved.

Would the Firebird (Salamander) be a Firebird with a Amiga 600 firmware and then use a socket adapter?

Space is not an issue for me as i have a Checkmate 1500 case

I think the normal Firebird will run in A600.
I don't think that a special Firmware is needed.
You only need an special Adapter -- or a PCB with PLCC socket which I meant with the "SALAMANDER" name
