Maybe something can be added to the installer to check if its running on ApolloOS and terminate?

Not mixing is true for all things.
1) Please NOT use kick 3.1.4 on Coffin or Amikit (it can lower stability)

2) Mind that the distros are carefully tested, installing some random libraries or patches from Animet can also give you problems

I'm a little confused by this. I can understand not using Kickstart 3.1.4 for Coffin since that is based on OS 3.9.
But Amikit can be installed over a base OS 3.1.4 installation. That means using Kickstart 3.1.4 would not be mixing OS versions.

Sean, its very simple.
I want to help people to have a stable system.
Our users report us that the Vampire Kick 3.10 is more stable than Kick 3.1.4.
This means for a stable system the recommendation is using Vampire Kick 3.10

I would assume this is because they are using another version of AmigaOS with Kickstart 3.1.4? What were the issues?

The reason why I ask is that I have been successfully using OS 3.1.4 with Kickstart 3.1.4 for the past two years with the V600 and now also the V1200 and have had no stability problems at all.

Just an honest attempt to try to understand, since I'm very happy with OS 3.1.4 and would like to continue to use it with both of my Vampires.

I use 3.1.4 (soft kicked) on my Vampirized Amiga 2000 and V1200 without any issues. I believe Gunnar is claiming caution mixing OS versions with Kickstart Roms that they were not intended for. Basically, a "You Milage May Vary" kind of statement.

  My honest bet is that
  a) Surely using OS 3.1.4 - KS 3.1.4 is a must
  b) Using Coffin, ApolloOS, AmiKit or AmigaOS 3.1,3.5 or 3.9 with KS 3.1.4 can bring instability. 3.1 KS is recommended here. Issue might mostly be that some libs are moved from ROM to OS, which older OS calls would expect to be resident, hence can hang.

Thus OS 3.1.4 is specific solution, not general recommended, as the headline recommends.

I would recommend Kick 3.10
