R7565 Beta Core for V1200 : We Need Your Feedback

Hi guys,

We have been testing core 7565 for V1200 for some weeks now and noticed we need more feedback before releasing it as a stable core.

Biggest change in that core is on the ChipRAM speed and we need to make sure it does work on all A1200 motherboards giving people same level of stability and without hickups on CIAs (mouse, keyboard, etc.).

For that, we would be glad if you could test that core and report with details of your A1200 motherboard :
  * Motherboard revision
  * Recapped motherboard : yes/no
  * Recapped PSU or new one : yes/no
  * Timing fix : yes/no
  * If yes : which fix ( based on EXTERNAL LINK )
  * Any other useful detail regarding the issue you face (mouse type, replaced keyboard membrane, etc.)

Only report if you have all those details otherwise your feedback won't help us.

Core is here :
EXTERNAL LINK

Happy testing ! :)

Ok just tested before your request on my A1200:
    Motherboard rev 2B Not Recapped
    Original black 25W 3A PSU not recapped
    Timig fix NO because the motherboard have no E123C and E123C and no E122C and E121C
    Original Commodore Amiga 1200 Mouse 12/93
    Kickstart 3.1 instead of the original 3.0 and RTC on A1200 clock port.
    The core run ok but is unstable after a bit like said on slack with problems typing with the keyboard where the keys repeat the same letters several times.

    Bustest runs ok the first time showing 7,1 as bandwidth on all chip operations. But when became instable reports very different numbers.
    I noticed that clicking the floppy drive also tends to desynchronize.

Instead on 7389B core all perfect.

Bye.

No problems at all with my recapped a1200 with new psu and board rev 1D4
  I tested with a remapped 3.1.4 rom (no rtc no timing fix)
System run stable after whdload, Quake, sysinfo, ecc.. . Bustest reports 7.1 on all values before and after, floppy clicks are regular and keyboard works perfectly

Hi Renaud, after the first cold reboot I got instant problems on my machine - I can't really use the Amiga because of the mouse and keyboard hick ups.

  *fast and often diskdrive clicking
  *Mouse double click dosen't work reliably
  *Seconds are jumping in DOpus - No RTC clock - (get time over net)
  *Keyboard error - It's not possible to write one correct word

Config:
  *Motherboard revision: 2b
  * Recapped motherboard : yes
  * Recapped PSU or new one : new one - EOS VLT60-3000
  * Timing fix : yes
  * If yes : 121C,122C,123C, 125C removed
  * Any other useful detail regarding the issue you face
    *Edu PS2 Mouse Adapter with an 15 year old wirless PS2 mouse
    *new Keyboard membrane
    *no RTC Clock
    *Soundcard MelodyPro
    *D520 Flickerfixer

    * If yes : n.a.
  Any other useful detail regarding the issue you face
      *The mobo is an Escom motherboard modded for the Amiga disk drive fix

Some old whdload timming troubles (r7389b) now OK (Example: state of the art timing now OK, still little gfx glitches)
Some new whdload troubles (Example: desert dream demo crash amigaos on exit)

Motherboard revision:    2B

I'd gladly help, just waiting for the postal service to actually get my card to me! Almost 2 weeks since it was sent, it's like being a kid at christmas, I hated waiting then LOL

  Interesting - a working 2b. ;) Thanks for the Info. Which PSU do you use? Have you checked the mobo on the backside for the timingfixes?

Thanks :)

Thanks for the update!

    * Motherboard revision - 1D4, Commodore Brand
    * Recapped motherboard : yes (ceramic capacitors)
    * Recapped PSU or new one : yes
    * Timing fix : unknown (meaning: i did not check the resistor configuration)

  This core works even better than the previous version (i.e. Skaermtrolden Hugo Whdload had blitting issues which are now fixed). No issues with keyboard or anything else.

  Can we have the x14 core pleeeeaaase??

hmmm i'm a bit hit and miss with the machine i've stuck my vampire 1200 card in.

    * Motherboard revision
  rev 1B
    * Recapped motherboard :  No
    * Recapped PSU or new one : No
    * Timing fix : No

  IndivisionAGA Mk2
  Sandisk extreme 32gig CF card on the A1200's standard IDE port
  Ethernet adapter on the ethernet expansion port
  Coclino PS2 mouse adapter + HP optical mouse
  original keyboard
  replacement floppy drive.

  i had to flash the 7565 core twice to get it to "stick". first time, it gave me the vampire logo with the startup sound, but no boot, no floppydisk seek chug noise, and no video on the native output.
  second flash, it seemed to take and booted normally.
  1. ran bustest to check the chipram numbers - 7.1meg as expected
  2. ran povray beenchmark - a tiny bit faster, but probably within percentages of margin of error so ... moving on...
  3. ran "reboxer" demo by Elude. some extra graphical ... "glitches" at the edge of the screen for the swirly 3D shape made of "mosquitoes" for want of a better word. on the scene where there is a polygon humanoid figure suspended by strings, some occasional "screen tearing" lines - but can't tell if this is an issue or how it's supposed to look :laughing:
  demo completed succesfully
  4. run Xtreme Racing as i wanted to see if faster chipram would be any benefit in game.
  System Froze. no native video output, no vampire graphics output, and no disk seek chug noises.

  rebooted, vampire logo, and startup sound. no boot. no floppy disk seek sound. no native video. Capslock light responds ok. power off and back on. same.

  reflashed 7565 core 3 times, still getting just vampire logo and nothing else.

  flashed down to 7389B core, system boots fine. flashed back to 7565B, stuck at vampire startup logo and sound.

  when i start the reflash process, when the software starts the erase cycle, the floppy disk makes a noise like the machine has rebooted, and the disk seek noise starts. the erase cycle completes, and it starts the programming cycle, the amiga reboots and again the disk seek sound is fine.
  no video output from anything though.
  turn amiga off when flash complete. leave to settle for a minute or so. power on.

  vampire logo and start sound. no boot. nothing else. except the capslock light is responding fine

--edit--
i can't get 7565 to start for love nor money. that earlier successful load must have been a total fluke or something. i've re-flashed, and re-flashed and re-flashed, re-downloaded the .jic in case of corruption, reflashed again. no luck.
7389B seems to be where it's at for my rev 1B mainboard.

Hola, Amigos!
Finally I've got my V1200, so can participate in all crazy stuff! :)
My feedback on Beta core is very positive.
Have stable machine, no issues at all!

  * Motherboard revision - 2B
  * Recapped motherboard : yes
  * Recapped PSU or new one : new Honeywell PSU (don't remember model)
  * Timing fix : yes
  * If yes : E123 & E125 both R/C totally removed (also had R118 =220ohm + 470ohm soldered to pin 43 of Alice, but removed that part, as did not notice any difference in machine's behaviour).

Best regards!

Swapped out my 1B A1200 board for a 1D4 (no recaps or anything, totally stock)
  as i was getting intermittent booting or more often, not, even with the 7389B build core.

  no change with the 1D4 board. no boot. no RGB output, no drive click, just powerlight and the vampire logo from the digital video out.

  i have another 1D4 board to test. hope my V1200 card isn't faulty - but its a worry at this point.

  either way, ignore my previous report with a 1B mainbaoard.

  going to try different PSU's etc. and figure this out
