Argh.
12 Hours of pain, and as I was making the video I fotgot to push the vampire all the way on the pcb and it workes.
So I guess there is a bad socket on the v1200 hafe way on and it works on 2B think the pcb's on 2B are a bit smaller than 1D.4
I'll order a new socket and solder it on.
Thx for all the help I got.

I wouldn't have thought it would be necessary to replace the edge connector socket on the Vampire, unless it's been damaged. They seem pretty good quality. In most cases like this, the Vampire is not being pushed all the way in, as you initially mentioned.

When it comes to certain A1200 motherboard revisions, I know that some of the expansion edges are not chamfered and you have to be really careful when pushing a card onto it. For instance, I had a rev. 1A motherboard where the expansion edge didn't have a chamfer and the sharp square edge caught one of the pins on my ACA1221 edge connector and pushed it back and snapped it off. So I had to gently sand a chamfer on the motherboard.

The 1D4 and 2B revisions I have seem to be fine.

I have to agree here.
The Vampire 1200 connectors are very good quality.

This is true also.

Regarding PSU problems.

One might think that a fat PC ATX PSU would work good.
As "Bigger is better" ...

But in my experience this is not the case.
My experience is that PC ATX PSU with 800W are not always better for an AMIGA than the old Commodore ones.

What the Amiga needs is enough Watt on the V5 (~20Watt)
And that the 5V is stable.

Today a PC has different requirements than the AMIGA for the PSU.
In my experience a PC PSU will operate in the AMIGA in a "range" which its not designed nor tuned for.

Yep the connector looks ok, but it will not work on the 2b's motherbords if is pushed all the way in. (Maby i am unlucky and have 2 bad motherboards :)
I had the 1D4 from new so I'll just use that whit the v1200 as it work whit out problems.

Watts dosen't matter it's the Amps you need.

Watts and Amps are directly linked, 5V @20 Watts is 5V @4 Amps

Yes Andrew is fully correct.

How much power (Amp/Watt) your Amiga needs depends on the combination of installed devices.
A normal A1200 will need ~ 1.5Amp*5V  ~ 7.5 Watt
The Vampire will add  ~ 0.5Amp
A Harddrive can also add ~ 0.5Amp

This means you should expect ~ 2.5Amp  ~ 12.5 Watt
With a good PSU with 4 Amp you should be fully on the save side.

Just looked at the changelog in the archive for Gold 2.12, and I can't see anything obvious. Is it the case that Vampire IDE is currently not available to use with this core? I don't need PCMCIA and have no immediate need to use the onboard IDE, unless of course I have to?

Regards,

Ross.

Would you recommend a smaller PSU because of this? i use a SFF ATX PSU, that is only 150W, i was more concerned about minimum load, than peak output.

So while I've run my PPC A1200 off one of those 120W pico psu's mounted internally in the desktop case with an 80W power brick. also be careful that the PSU you run actually DOES do minus 12volts instead of shorting to ground. as without it, the A1200's audio goes a little weird.
so the 120W pico is rated at 6A on the 5V rail with a 120W power brick. the 80W brick i had would in theory give me 4A on 5volts on the conversion... is that how it works? so really i'm only JUST a little better than a stock 25W amiga power brick anyway

but other side of the coin:-

My A4k swapped to run a flex-ATX PSU, the machine cooked that PSU after a year or so, as it was in no-way capable on the 5V rail of running the loadings that the old A4k 180W PSU was capable of.
i had to switch it out for a 550W SFX PSU as that was the only thing that came close to the spec of what the original A4k PSU was capable of pushing down the 5V rail. Even though that first flex-atx psu was supposedly capable to 250W, it was only 30-40W on the 5V line.

[edit]
i'm running the 7389B (current as it stands) core off the website, and my onboard IDE and PCMCIA are active.

Sure we do want a video. Recently there are several people online who claimed that V1200 does not exist yet as a final product but only as prototype and that only few beta testers have it.

No probs, I'll see what I can do. Been benchmarking my 040 25MHz for comparisons :D

Thanks Igor. Received my card here in the states. Doesn't look like a prototype to me. :-)  Will try to get some time to put it to good use!

Hello There,

  I have a problem with my V1200.
I got my V1200 back in March, and I only started using it last week.

It was with Core Gold 2.11
I flashed Core 2.12, since the Vampire IDE didn't work!

  any help?

  A1200 REV.1D4 MB, Recapped, OS 3.9, BB`s 1,2,3,4.
Subway USB, INDY AGA MK 1, ratte AMS.
  PSU: VLT-3000

Everything fully functional, except for Vampire IDE !

Read before FLASH...
Internal IDE working.

There are two versions of V1200 GOLD 2.12
one with vampire IDE and not working PCMCIA
and
second with working PCMCIA and INTERNAL IDE

Anyone on the team care to comment? thanks

Hang in there.  The V1200 core is being worked on continuously at the moment.  We need time to iron this all out.  It is clear you have been very patient so far (especially yourself Knight Stone) and that is greatly appreciated.  Sometimes these things uncover unexpected twists and take that little bit longer.  The V1200 has been a very long journey for all of those involved.  Developers and users.

Thanks for the tip :) I thought it, I was doing something wrong !

I forgot where I downloaded the Core, can you post a link for the first one (With Vampire IDE)?

I don't need PCMCIA, I have Subway USB !
