@Michael R, as I understand it the ESP8226 module does most of the heavy lifting (it handles the entire wifi stack etc so the host computer doesnt have to ) and by default works like an old school AT hayes style modem, it has its own on-board processor and can be reprogrammed using the standard Arduino IDE .. so you can have it either work like a classic Hayes modem, but instead of dialing land line phone numbers you use ip addresses,.. i.e. ATDT GOOGLE.COM .. I have never programmed one but I know you can also have it work many different ways also like a standard network adaptor too.. there is tons of documentation on it.

It's good to know there is much documentation available for these ESP8226 modules. So some enterprising individual with more programming knowledge than me can adapt it for use with Amiga OS. ;-)

With that in mind after the wifi module is adapted to the Amiga the framework will be in place for other modules. The six pin expansion header is the same for other Arduino-style modules so if the Micro USB module is bi-directional maybe we could have USB for the Vampire V2+ accelerators? There are drivers available for the Micro USB. I'd like to test it somehow.

My 1200 is ready to accomodate a vampire-power ignition.. is 2017 the year of vampire 1200 (with parasite add-on)??

PARASITE may only be for internal testing while the team perfects the enhanced Planar Graphics associated with original AGA chipset modes. It would be really nice if it were for sale soon to be used with V600 and V500 and in the (near) future with V1200 card on an Amiga 1200.

  I presume that PARASITE grabs the video signal from OCS/ECS and even AGA, modifies and enhances it then outputs it to DIGITAL-VIDEO. That's an elegant solution to a difficult problem. For those of us who own Amiga 500 AND Amiga 1200 that's perfect. Then I wouldn't have to wait for SAGA to be fully compatible with original chipsets. My Amigas already are!

I agree. PARASITE would be a great addition to my A1200 as well, in addition to the soon to be released Vampire 1200 V2!

In fact there is no need to hardware-emulate the aga chipset in a 1200 (let's use the one within the 1200!). So a vampire 1200 with parasite add-on for me is the perfect solution. Keep it pure amiga, please!!

  That's exactly right for me and my Amiga 1200! Bring on the Parasite video device and the Vampire 1200 card and my Amiga will ready to go! The custom chips in my Amiga work just fine! :-)

  But if these Parasite video devices were put into production, of couse everyone would want one for their Vampire cards, everyone with a V600 and everyone who ordered a V500. So that's 3,500 additional pieces of hardware in addition to the 2400 Vampire 500's in production now! It might be five years to get them! But the SAGA chipset may fully support AGA much sooner. So we should just wait and dream of the possibilities!

Hi Michael R,

You're in for a huge surprise (I think).

I still don't quite understand what the Parasite does, but from what I understood (I think) was that it was ONLY necessary until the FPGA on the Vampire motherboard is generating OCS, ECS and AGA signals that go directly into it's DIGITAL-VIDEO port. You don't need it anymore after that.

As for your comment above, while your custom chips do continue to function just fine, the whole point of the Vampire is that, they will be IDLE when you are using the Vampire!

The Vampire 68080 is redefining the "least common denominator" that AOS runs on from here on out.....

And I don't care what others think they know about 3.x GHz x86 computers. I think that they never will emulate the Vampire standalone. I'm completely okay with that.

    If I had a Vampire 1200 card and one of those PARASITE devices, (not sure I like the name, PANDORA maybe?), then my Amiga 1200 would run just fine and output everything to DIGITAL-VIDEO. But that's not saying I wouldn't like a fully functional SAGA chipset on my Vampire 1200 that would make the custom chips and extra video devices, including the indie thing, obsolete. The Super AGA chipset when complete will have enhanced AGA modes and it will perform better and faster than the original chips. Maybe at some point the team can incorporate a custom Amiga floppy controller in SAGA that works with pc floppy drives since that's the only legacy hardware we might need on a standalone board. Maybe that's wishful thinking.

The standalone board itself (is it called Phoenix, or Firebird?) would be a great achievement that would marry the Super AGA chipset with modern components such as USB, SATA, Ethernet, Wireless, Bluetooth, etc. And even though Classic Amiga OS will have access to all that and more it will still be super fast on the 68080 CPU and 128MB of memory!

True. The 68080 + SAGA is setting the standard for everyone else!

For the standalone version an Aga reimplementation in SAGA is obviously needed, but for the a1200 version it is not needed, for now (what saga does now is already ok)! So if they start to produce and sell vampire1200+parasite I will surely buy that combo!! In that way the hardware could be in customers hands as the saga advances, and gunnar and the apollo team could finish the work on saga with more testers and less pressure..

Mine is to. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there _yet_? (Sorry been in a car with my 4 year old nephew lol).

On a more serious note I am really excited by this. This along with my BlizzPPC for playing with OS4 should be fun :D

I agree! I'm ready for the V1200 V2 combo pack as well. Since we already have AGA the parasite or something similar could offer us enhanced AGA at higher resolution through DIGITAL-VIDEO now! (or at the end of the year when the V1200 accelerator is available). :-)

But if SAGA chipset offers full AGA support before that I'm ok with that too.

  Guys am I doing wrong when I say yes to AGA. And what benefit is Super AGA? If indeed it introduces new AGA modes then it will create a niche that is better served by the already introduced RTG in the Vampire V2's. The advantage of RTG is that can be handled also by all non Vampire RTG enabled Amigas.
  I don't want to start a flame war, just an open discussion and learn something on the road of doing that ;-)

SUPER AGA is all of this
* PLANAR AMIGA modes
* PLANAR ATARI MODES
* AMIGA SPRITES
* AMIGA SPECIAL MODES LIKE EHB
* fully COPPER controlled (copperbar restereffects)

and also
* CHUNKY MODE
* HICOLOR MODE
* TRUECOLOR MODE
* YUV VIDEO MODE

But these features which some also are on RTG cards
are now for the very first time done in an fully AMIGA compatible way!

This means the Copper can fully control also CHUNKY Screen.
And AMIGA Sprites can be displayed also on CHUNKY or HICOLOR modes.

Thanks Gunnar,

Now I know why you're working so hard to give us Super AGA :)
Can't wait to have it then for my vampirized A600 and A500+.
Hope it will be ready when you soon start mass producing the Phoenix board, that the Apollo Team is already testing.

All the best,

So we can expect a vampire1200 only after the completion of SAGA an stand-alone version??

Because I'm impatient to put my hands on the vampire1200 :-D :-D!!
  From your kind reply I now understand that the a1200 version could be the next one, so I'm happy.
  Thank you very much for your (and the rest of the team) work, Gunnar!!
