Those are inputs, not outputs. Also, the plans for audio on the FPGA were for digital audio, not analog.

They are inputs. :) So, I expect the A1200 expansion was able to send its audio through those pins to be mixed. (using a DAC to convert the digital to analog for the internal mixing)And sure, you can allow to use an DIGITAL-VIDEO out for a full digital experience. But think that some Amiga 1200 users will enjoy to use the original analog audio connectors.

| Well then play Audio direct trough paula, in 14 bit mode it still sounds quite good even for today's standards.

This seems very plausible to me. Remember the strange official CD-extension for the a1200 that connected to the expansion port and turned the a1200 into a CD32? The audio inputs were probably available for analog CD audio.

| The genlock input on the A1200 belly slot would do the same thing for analog video if we had a DAC chip for that matter, but we won't because it would drop the scan rate to AGA levels.

| If we could use the genlock input of the A1200 belly slot, we still wouldn't because of the scan rates.

| I wonder if any final decisions were made in the intervening period and if so was the hardware description code written already.

I find it very interesting because it shows that the ultra-awkward official CD-extension for the A1200 was already at least in concept stage when the A1200 was designed. I guess they should rather have added some input socket close to the PCMCIA-port which was the more likely candidate for CD-add-ons. Around that time all CD-drives in PCs had some internal analog wiring to connect to the soundcard. Thus, connecting an external CD-rom directly to the Amiga analogue amplifier circuit through the case would have made sense.

| I have another question - will the V1200 have a built-in IDE port, like V500+?

Is it for better performance only or is there some other reason? How much increase over built in IDE on A1200 are we talking about?

How many MB/sec do you get with your build in? We get about 12 MB/sec. So roughly 4 times faster than the original. Depending on the test.

| Sorry, bit off topic, but is there a recommended method of setting up IDE on the V500+? I only get a bit over 3MB/sec according to sysinfo.

Seems about right then. I get 2.8MB/s according to Sysinfo on a A600 with Vampire (Silver 6). (My A1200 with Apollo 1260 (OCd) and buffered IDE is currently disassembled and not in a bootable condition so I cant make comparison)

Don't forget on the A600 you are using the onboard IDE controller that has a max of about 3 MB/sec. Vampire500 has it's own onboard IDE controller that should do a lot faster.

Im not forgetting, the comparision between built in vs a new IDE on Vampire was the whole point of this conversation. ;-)

| 12MB/s is ok I think Yesterday I have copy whole my disk to bigger one, both SATA drives. Speed was 50-70MB/s. So, 12MB/s on much older technology is ok.
