im posting it for another time, but the latest compiles can be downloaded here:
EXTERNAL LINK navigate to the subdir with the latest datum and choose your preffered archive format.
the files contain a whole aros installation. but the roms are in boot/amiga: aros-rom.bin and aros-ext.bin.

alternatively

EXTERNAL LINK has
amiga-m68k-boot-floppy.lha which contains compressed adf, so maybe thats too complicated. also there
amiga-m68k-boot-iso - contains iso and the roms are again in boot/amiga dir.

Hello Wawa, is there a difference between the files of the Distro you linked with the official Nightly Build 68k?

yes

they are already optimized to run on amiga hardware

f.e. there are lines of code in it in startup-sequence that install aros roms even in ram if f.e. 3.1 roms are preinstalled

Latest section is
  EXTERNAL LINK
  From Readme
  --------------
  AROS m68k-amiga
  ---------------

  This disk (image) contains AROS
  for the amiga-m68k architecture.

  To boot, you can:

  1. copy the content of this image or archive to a bootable
partition, best case with the file system installed to the
RDB (Rigid Disk Block) of your media, and attach it to your
Amiga via an autoconfig mass storage controller (internal
IDE ports or most SCSI/IDE expansions will do) , or

  2. image the 'Emergency-Boot.adf' file to a floppy,
or copy the contents of the 'Emergency-Boot' directory
to an empty OFS formatted floppy, and run 'C:Install DF0:'

Whether you boot with the AROS Emergency-Boot floppy,
or directly from your boot partition, it will start the
AROSBootstrap program, which will softkick the AROS
relocatable ROM image (aros.hunk.gz) into the RAM.

The Emergency-Boot should boot on any Amiga hardware with
KickStart 1.3 or later, and at least 2M of KICK RAM, and
a total of 5M of RAM to run Wanderer.

If you have MAPROM style hardware, or want to burn an
EEPROM, you can use the aros-rom.bin and aros-ext.bin
files. Both 512K images must be present in the Amiga
  address space as follows:

    0xE00000 aros-ext.bin  (512K)
    0xF80000 aros-rom.bin  (512K)

None of the programs on this disk are expected to operate
under any version of AmigaOS at this time, except for
  AROSBootstrap.

  Enjoy this technology preview!

actually they are not much optimized. its still mostly 68000 code, but there are some additions and omissions that make it easier for a user to run it out of the box without editing some stuff themselves.

For me it would be nice to have a list of known working instructions, including what CF Card/Adapter combinations are known to work.  I tried the nightly hdf files which others report as working but without any real success.  I simply dd (linux) the image to the CF card.  Sometimes gets as far as workbench but with lots of errors about missing libraries.  Sometimes I just get the "waiting for bootable media" screen.

I don't expect the Apollo Core developers to expend time on this right now but rather those in the community who have it working to detail what they did.

Could you perhaps point me in the direction of a guide to compiling AROS from Linux?  Most of the guides I have read assume that I already have the appropriate cross compiler or provide broken links to where I could download it from.

so you have used hdf from my first link to amigaports? tbh, sounds like it did not decompress well. have you checked if the libs reported missing are actually missing? also maybe the file flags might be wrong.

aros compiles its own toolchain alongide.

alternatively there will be docker images to compile aros targets.

I noticed the change in the Startup-sequence for loading the ROMs (not needed on WinUAE), I refer if there are differences between the two "nightly" in the system files, libraries etc. ...

We had to start over. The content dosent differ so much. Some heavy fonts may be missing. Instead we provide an installer replacement and different icon set. At some point we may include owb and maybe odyssey even though the latter doesnt work on 68k or ppc as of current.

So I found that there is also a Vampire section on an AROS forum:

EXTERNAL LINK
Might it not be better to keep AROS+Vampire questions there?  Either that, or create a "AROS" topic here like we have "news", "performance", "games"......etc?

as this is vampire related forums i think its appropriate to offer support here. if anyone posts on aros forum i guess i would notice that too in a while. the admins may create aros section in here, but im not sure if the amount of thematic threads warrants this right now. its no for me to tell, anyway.

Since AROS is de facto main OS, I vote for support here.

Thanks for expertise, and download links, WaWa

for those who might be trying to run their existing amiga os installation upon (installed/default?) aros kickstart it should actually be perfectly possible. so far i have discovered two prefs files which cause problem, these are icontrol.prefs and local.prefs.
that is for those who are actually not experiencing aros boot issue (are there any?) amiga workbench (such as wb 3.9) should actually work if these prefs files are not existent.

other than that if anyone trying this runs into problems, please post the content of your s-s and try to test without user-startup and wbstartup first.
