Standalone As V500

All of the pictures I've seen of the V4 standalone show that it features pins that make it appear it could socketed. Does this mean the board could also function as a V500/1000/2000 when that product is ready and the core supports it, or would it be limited to standalone operation?

The V4 standalone uses the same basic board as the v4 A500 add-in accelerator card, the main difference really between them is if it has the CPU header solder on (for the accelerator) (or not - for stand alone) .. and if it has DB9 connectors solder on (for stand alone )  ... or not (for use as a V500 accelerator board) .. otherwise the are basically the same design just minus / added connectors on it.. That said, its unknown if you can just solder/de-solder the appropriate connectors to convert a board from one usage to another ..

I am also interested in this.

Potentially a V4 500 gives me the best of all worlds. I can fit it in my A500 (although I need to do 1meg chip upgrade) then if the A500 dies or I fancy a change I solder on some d-types, buy a Keyrah and extension cables and then place in to my A1200.net case.

I expect the CPU headers fit fine in the A1200 case. I guess if using the V4 500 as a 'stand-alone' just use USB mouse/joystick and you don't even need to solder the 9-pin dtypes.

If you are putting a v4 into a 500 there is no reason to bother with the 1meg chip ram upgrade - the v4 will be taking over everything and providing you with 10 mb chip and 500 fast ram. The OCS on the A500 board is completely bypassed except for the ports.

I’m
Running the Core 3 alpha on my OCS 500+v2 and I now can play everything that wants >512k chip ram.

These were the V2 Vamps limits. If we are talking of (future) V4 for A500 (not yet listed as product!) it will have all feats on, so no chip mem hw expansions will be needed.

It was announced as a product two years ago (https://www.apollo-accelerators.com/files/V4_announcement_v1_5.pdf).

"Apollo Team expects first batch of Vampire V4 to be available in Q4’17. An official ETA will be announced once first batch order is processed at factory. Strategy is to deliver first A1000/A500/A2000/CDTV model, then standalone system and finally A1200 one. "

Those plans obviously have changed to SA first and then the 500...
