AmiKit and Vampire

So, AmiKit 11 has just been released, and it looks like a very nice overhaul/addition.

To what extent is this AOS 3.x addon/redesign/skin usable with Vampire powered Amigas?

I realise its WinUAE powered as is at the moment, but there has been Real Amiga versions down the line for the other versions.

I guess what Im asking, how does it hold up compared to Coffin for example performancewise? Too much fluff/many addons?

AmiKit is sadly not build to run on native m68k hardware incl. Vampire, even being most jampack of m68k software. Its emulation layer with a jampack.

There is other project "AmiKit Real" based on older Free
AmiKit 8+ or so, that runs on 030+ Amigas incl. Vamps

There is a tool "Vampirizer" that makes AKReal usable on a Vamp

There were experiments with AmiKit X, but unofficial
  EXTERNAL LINK

Author of AmiKit has expressed an interest to do
a Vampire version, but does not have a hardware.

Quoting Jan from a priv mail, hope it will come true one day. Its interesting to know there is a chance.

"Regarding X for Vampire, well, I am still waiting for V4 standalone system :)

Regarding integrated OS3.9 - I did everything I could to achieve this dream, but it seems it’s not possible due to some legal mumbo jubo, unfortunately."

Thanks for the answer Vojin.

Sounds like Coffin or preferably AROS, will be the way forward.

I am interested also, and would buy Vamp specific installer.
Bundled with OS 3.1.4., could make a nice legal starter. That could be its potential.
Preferably, such single CD bundle could be a Vamp install and repair media and could update Vamp core, SAGA drivers and even ROM. That would be my wish list and would pay as much as currently AmiKit costs with Flower Pot.

AROS seems to be only way forward that can develop the OS components further and likely get a decent browser. m68k Linux I hope will be an option too.

So, AROS Vision for Vampire would be my boot#2 option :)
There is interest by author too. These are two most legal packs
      of m68k software of today.
      From AROS Vision FB page

"News regarding Aros on Vampire. Thanks to help of Kalamatee the boot problem on vampire is now solved. Right now they are working on speed optimizations. As soon something is ready I hope to do Aros Vision for Vampire"

Coffin is "lighter" and more spartan in look, thus faster.
It also included more WB apps and games, emulators and their games etc. So Coffin is free and superior (to any AmiKit and esp. to AmiKit Real based on older builds) plus it includes Vamp specific tools and core version checker and flasher, and even TOS/Mint and backup partitions.
But then again, AmiKit is fully legal and includes nice all-in-one updater, nice exclusives and OS 3.5/OS 3.9/OS4 check to have OS3 legally.

I do hope AmiKit 11+ for Vamp could fair way better and include what is legally possible from Coffin, making it legal and sell-able product with Vamps, as well as some less demanding and Vamp inspired themes :).

AmiKit comfirmed what you said;

Why don’t you give Amikit a try? I’m running Amikit XE on my Vamp. There is only a few modifications you need to make.  It’s not super fast, but fast enough for me. I did replace AmiStart with AmiDock tho. If you want a super fast WB go with plain 3.1.4/3.9.

Yes, I do understand frustration coming from new AmiKit release scheme. But then again, they have left AmiKit 8/9 Free.

However and again, would pay for Vampirized XE.

Heheh I know :D I am proud owner of AmiKit 8 in my WinUAE. I use it all the time as tools to transfer data between PC and my Amiga or play total chaos on it. I would never ever upgrade from 8 to any version of AmiKit...as long as they keep AmiKit 8 free...I am using it :D

Which is precisely the reason why they're waiting to see if the volume picks up with the A1200/standalone Vampire.

Exactly :) Recent discussion with Jan. There is no set date, but seems he is willing. How long will it take, no one can say now.

"In Amiga world, well, I need to buy the hardware itself, spend my free time to make a Vamp port, fine-tune it, test it… and then provide user support, etc. So it would be nice to have some extra sales and to be able to invite my wife for a dinner or two as a compensation for all that, you know :)"
