Cloanto and the "Amiga" parties have gone from using cease and desist letters to asking for a court order to prevent distribution of 3.1.4. If they succeed in getting the court order I doubt that 3.1.4 will be available from Amiga retailers on any media or from Hyperion as a download. The other issue for retailers is the ROM, AFAIK Vampire boards are supplied to them with a patched 3.1 ROM licensed from Cloanto pre-installed. If they update the ROM to 3.1.4 does it survive a core update or does it revert to 3.1 and require the user to re-flash the 3.1.4 ROM image to the Vampire?

Physical media is becoming rare and floppy disks aren't the ideal medium for the Vampire 4 standalone. In an ideal world the ROM would support booting from the micro SD card interface like a Raspberry PI and other common SBC's do. The simplest solution would be to bundle a CF to IDE adaptor and card with 3.1.4 pre-installed (with a ROM check in the start-up sequence to re-flash the ROM if needed).

If Cloanto succeeds would that make me a criminal and would I have to surrender my rom? I wouldn’t want Interpol chasing me for international crimes.

Would it be possible for the V4 to be bootable from usb media? I mean at the least it could mean there could be a usb boot disk you could buy from a reseller containing workbench and saga etc.

Regarding USB stack, we took the decision to build our own stack from scratch (as we did with all other parts of the core by the way) and not rely on any Linux subsystem powered by an ARM processor. By chosing this (hard) way, we insure that we have complete control over it and provide a complete SoC with high portability. We think this decision is quite future-proof.

I hope they will be making it bootable too. Those words are ambiguous if it will be bootable or not. Fingers crossed.

I read this as usable USB stack for mass storage mostly + keyboard on power on (early boot menu etc.). It would be nice to have USB Boot under AmigaOS.
