This is why I am getting a Checkmate A1500 plus case. New Case, New motherboard and new everything else. Just what I have wanted since my A2000 was new.

| Hey, what kind of Motorola laptop is that? :) Is it an Atrix dock?

| @lordaga it's not a computer, it's just keyboard and screen.

Well, a laptop could somewhat be used as screen too, but its a nice touch its a "Motorola thang" >:-) Not even a Freescale one >:-) Fitting a Vamp "beneath" would be a +++++++++++ + +++ @:-)Ah,it only has a phone docking place, and for Android 2.2. phone, but great thingie. 250$ now, if its this EXTERNAL LINK

| i'd like this scenario: - a little flat box for the vampire SA. - a little flat portable battery pack that can be recharged through usb, and also power through usb the vampire and possibly something like that "lapdock" from motorola. so it could all fit in a small ultrabook laptop bag. this could make a decent mobile solution for a portable amiga 080 :)

| Would an Amiga 68k USB to serial & parallel port driver the possible or feasible? Really the only thing missing for me with the standalone would be the ability to go back and use my old sound samplers & video grabbers / midi devices...

Add null modem gameplay, old LaserJet printers (we do have drivers for), even a fax/modem if ever needed, old scanners ... Yes, thats what would be great. But trade off is we really need that few USB ports if we get proper USB stack (e.g. Poseidon style?)What about expansion port? Maybe later, but somehow (e.g. via expansion port?) a ser/par bi-direction to plate with external ports would be great. Add MIDI and 4 mouse and joystick ports, because we dislike switching and love Hired Guns >:-)

A new version of the 1200 case would be amazing, cutting out unneeded slots and adding new slots for USB CD ROM etc.

Ah old good "Amiga dream" case, as rendered on early CUSA frontpage :-) Best shot is if A1200.net cases could be somewhat adopted, but CD ROM is impossible there. EXTERNAL LINK Checkmate 1500 is better shot, you can speak with Mr Jones about his additional run after the backers are supplied. EXTERNAL LINK

| cdrom and floppies aren't very useful anymore. better use external hdd connected via usb port. you can have many adf and iso files stored on an hard disk. i haven't used a cdrom/dvd in almost 10 years. space is too limited.

Dont forget HDDs are limited in working hours, and have failure rate of more frequent that burned "ISO" is self demagnetized or deleted. I also like install boot media too, that is not volatile USB. CD-Audio of real HiFi quality is third reason. Floppies are nostalgia thing and "security via obscurity" thang.nicolas sipieter wrote:

Double layer DVD and BlueRay.

| The checkmate 1500 looks good, but i never had a big box Amiga and it dosn't have the Retro appeal that the Vampire does. 20 odd years ago i was briefly tempted by putting my 1200 in a tower case, now i just want a new style wedge enclosure - preferably styled after the 1200

| @vojin floppies/cd/dvd/bluray medium gets damaged in time too, and they have a limited number of use-hours too, like everything. you also could put hifi quality music on external hdd. cd/dvd is not the only medium on which you can put quality audio. dvd simple or double layer are still very limited in space. 4gb, 8gb it's too little. bluray is a bit better. but it's cumbersome to have to carry 10 or 20 cd/dvd around when i go to some place else, juste to have my data with me. i prefer carrying a small 2.5' hdd. it's more sturdy, it have more space, and it's smaller to carry around. they are also faster in transfer speed. and resist time better than floppies/cd/dvd. for nostalgia purpose everyone can do whatever they want. everyone is free to choose what they like. me i don't see any uses for those mediums anymore. even when i was using amiga i didn't use floppies/cd/dvd much. i had uw-scsi on my cyberstorm and a few hdd around, i connected them when needed. that being said, let's stop the offtopic. you said your mind, i've said mine, i won't talk about that in this thread anymore. let's go back to the good news of vampire SA. it's very good to see progress being made on that front. congrats to the team.

Agreed. I will just make a brief mention - my Teac burned Amiga backup CD from 1998 reads great today, while I burried a lot of HDDs , USB sticks etc. incl. SSD recently. That is why I trust discs more - if I care about them (proper storage, away from magnet sources, use just to copy files). But there is a "CEE factor" in my HDD exp. too - here we get a bit more garbage of electronics, even of same brands (South East Europe quality is lower). Again, Kudos for Standalone going strong! Double buffered IDE makes both IDE SSD and DVD-RW usage possible, at Vamp IDE speed!
