Glen, yours is a valid choice as any. Ironically, back in the day we couldn't wait to ditch the scanlines and lower resolutions, flicker etc.
Some Amiga users are all about nostalgia and the retro feel where others want to move this forward from where it stalled out many years ago. All good.

Indeed, everyone is different. I guess anyone using an a1000 in 2018 would have to be all about nostalgia hehe.

Thanks everyone.

Hook up a vampire, winuae or a Rpi to an lcd and play a game like beneath a steel sky...You're kidding yourself if you think that  experience is better than playing on a native resolution rgb crt monitor.

Its coming close now with chipset reVamped. Its LCD monitors that hardly support needed refresh rates (which was CRT situation too beyond CBM models) and there will be not that much difference.

Surely, I do have an Nostalgia factor when seeing 1084S or so, just because I could never afford it and had to live with jerky TV low res and interlaced high res.

my monitor of nostalgia is my phillips CM8833 II its hooked up to my CD32 and my MIST FPGA and the amiga does look beautiful on it but my old eyes arnt what they once was and thats why my vamped 600 with its RTG gets a lot of love as modern lcd displays are easier on my eyes... dont get me wrong for the rest of my retro setup I use a Sony KVM model 36 inch and its beautiful... just saying there are pros and cons to both display types.

What about the possibility of adding just additional Chip RAM to a 2.x Core?  In essence, providing ECS capability for OCS machines.  1000s and older 500s and 2000s would immediately benefit.  That would solve the issue at hand I think - assuming it's possible?  My 1000 is on 2.10 and CoffinOS v53 and I'm loving it!  Of course, I also have my original 1080 CRT connected for RGB output but I gotta say guys, running full on RTG on a 25" 1080p display is just glorious!  Run a game or application that requires RGB and it shoots it over to the 1080 perfectly.  More Chip RAM please :)

I'd agree with more Chip RAM on a 2.x core. It would make my 1000 truly brilliant as at the moment I just keep hitting the WHDLoad not enough ChipRAM on so many things ... I've put the Vamp in my 500+ for the time being - but somehow it just isn't the same :-(

Surely the chipset would need to be implemented in FPGA to access additional chipram - so I don't think its possible without core 3

yes my understanding is that the agnus/fat lady chip is what deals with chip memory and on the 1000 it is the very first version and so very limited - chip ram can not be added to the cpu slot only fast ram can be added this way. so no without re-implementing the whole amiga chipset (gold 3) adding chipmem is not possible on the vamp. you would need something like this EXTERNAL LINK (dosnt say 1000 but that kinda thing)

To the best of my knowledge, 1MB chip and 2MB chip upgrades required newer A500 rev2 and A500+ boards, it has never made an a1000 happy. At least that I know. Thus GOLD3 Vamp will be best a1000 upgrade, once again.

Ahh well there you go then - basically the 1000 is hobbled out of the starting blocks! grab yourself a 500 or 500 plus they arnt very expensive on ebay especially if you get yourself a fixer up er!

Watch out for the Rejuvenator, which might be interesting wrt. Agnus revision and ChipMem size. At least A1000s with Piggyback board can be updated with it once ready.

Well, interesting piece of HW, good for all a1000 owners
EXTERNAL LINK
Since it brings 2MB chip and newer ROMs, nice upgrade.
Keep up the good work

However, V2/v4 Vamps for a1000 kind of offer more :-)

You can add VGA monitor to Vampire DIGITAL-VIDEO with adapter and take audio also out with adapter. Then you have CRT with OCS,ECS,AGA,RTG+8bit+16bit audio

but you still dont have more chip ram - thats the whole point.
