Hi all,

I just received my Vampire 600 V2 and I am basically using this guide EXTERNAL LINK to install AOS.

This installation does give me some problems, so I installed an basic OS39 BB1, BB2, picasso and sagadriver, but same issue.

In WINUAE everuthing seems to work fine, but when transferring the CF to the amiga I end up with a black and white screen on the DIGITAL-VIDEO output. On the normal CRT screen I have colors.

Even the vampire bootscreen is in B/W, but I'm not sure if that is normal. The previvious core logo was red (v2.5). Now V2.9 logo is b/w.

  Mousepointer is in red.

  Any ideas?

  thnx

Need to register your vampire card, EXTERNAL LINK
Then unfortunately wait for another core update, it's done often to pick up new numbers.

Say what?

Why is that not in the manual? I have been working on this for hours.

Glad I asked :-)

Yours came with a manual?

Yes it did. Came in a small box, with the vampire logo and a tiny manual.

Well it's likely printed then before this became a thing, I don't know the full story, but what I gathered essentially someone stole the vampire designs and threatened to make knockoffs. So this registration process ended up being needed.

Yeah, I read about the stealing of the designs. I just registered the vampire. So now I have to wait for an updated core?

haha, ok, the vampire serial tool tells me to "not forget to register"

Yeah unfortunately, but there is someone that periodically makes small updates to pick up new numbers. It's possible to maybe harass the IRC channel to see if you can expedite it.

Popped a question in the IRC. See what happens. Anyway, I can start finetuning my installation now that I know this is not an issue.

thnx!

We should add that info to the printed manual it seems.
I was thinking that people don't even read those manuals those days but looking on the forums or somewhere like that what needs to be done. Ok point taken.

Is it possible to add the serial numbers of the cards to the core firmware as they come from the factory and prior to being sold? Would save customers from having to register cause I'm sure many still haven't done so yet. Plus it would also mean not having to release as many incremental updates and customers not having to wait for their serial numbers to be included.

That's not possible.
Getting serial number is possible only after testings the card.

Hello Igor,

I did read the manual :-)

Anyway, it looks like the registration proces is not mandatory. Only after using the serialnumber extraction tool it became clear to me that it is obligatory.

I would change that and make it a little more promeninet. Or I am the only one that missed it :-)

It is not mandatory to register the card if you can live with black and white video. It is kinda retro. :-)
Perhaps the boot screen could have a little message saying that you need to register to enable colors. Then most people should see it, no matter if they have read the manual or followed the forums/IRC.

Yup. There was an update pretty fast after I asked at the irc channel. 2.9.4 if I remember correctly.

Hi, my serial was included in the newest build 5115 from the donwload section.
So if anyone reads this, the updates are made weekly.
Dont be confused, if the build date is rather old.
My registration was on 12th of may and the working(newest) build is from 10th of may.
Hope this helps anyone.
