Which CF Card to Buy?page  1 2

So, after all the trouble described here:

CLICK HERE
I decided to give another CF card a try.

But this time I want to make sure that this is the right type.

So, a request for people who are on Vampire 600 V2, Gold 2.9, Coffin r51 and the following things run flawlessly for them:

  - Shapeshifter (only runs with max ram in my case, then some things don't work),
  - Quake 1 (only runs if I open from SamQuake icon, saves work, loads from saves don't work),
  - 1942 Deluxe (all sprites besides my plane are messed up),
  - all demos supplied with r51 work (some won't run in my case),

and generally if you don't have any problems with the setup...

Could you please post the link to the 32 GB CF card you are using?

  Thank you!

On sidenote, Panther miniCF-IDE adapter is advertised as V4 ready "Specially designed for the Vampire V4 and V500*."

Apollo Wiki in general is a great resource. Should be far more visible at this website too :-)

Needs a bit updating in WHDLoad games, otherwise best place for proper Vamp related info of any kind.

Thank you!

And may I ask which card you are using personally? As you are on exactly the same setup as mine, it is very useful info for me.

Thanks! Can you provide me with the detailed info about the cards (models or product id)?

To me it sounds like you have a general problem connecting a CF to the Amiga 600.

It sounds to me like this is totally unrelated to the Vampire card.

i'm running a sandisk extreme pro 32gig in my A600:-

a kingspec 32gig (horizontal) 44pin "Disk On module" in my A500:-

I would caution anyone thinking of running "DOM" units, as they are a pain to update. better to run a CF card and stick that in a PC to take the current Apollo/CoffinOS image, than waste a few evenings having to manually copy everything over from an imaged SD card to your main drive on the vampire...

  and Kingston elite pro 4Gig's in my A3000, A1200's, A4000, GVP A530 & HD8+ with relevant acard SCSI2IDE and IDE2CF adapters.

i bought a couple of cheaper "speedy" brand CF cards, but both of these have died in relatively short order (a year or two). i don't think they liked the "write amplification" problem amigas generate with writing multiple small files to flash drive pages. the kingstons are still going strong, but bear in mind that the only machines that see regular use are the vampire equipped A500/A600, and my A3k. So the kingstons could have died a long time ago, it's only lack of use that means they are still alive :s

I have used several 4-8GB Kingston, 4-16 GB Transcend and 8-32 GB Sandisk - all worked without problems.

Today I mainly use the 32GB Sandisk Ultra.

Well, could be, but I'm sure everything is connected well. I tried two different adapters, 3 Amigas 600, applied the capacitor fix and it's all the same in all variants.

The only plausible possibility is, providing the Vampire V2 is ok, is that my CF card is failing for some reason.

I have 4x SDCFHS-032G-G46 working without any hickup. I also have 1x SDCFXPS-032G-X46 that I bought for speed to image it quickier from my PC.

And which is the one which works great on your Vampire setup (and runs all the software I'm having trouble with)?

Yes this one.
Me and my son both use these ones.
We use them both in A600, A500, and A2000.

BTW did you consider buying an USB-Blaster?

Yes, I intend to get a USB Blaster. Will it be of any help to my problems?

Will give you (more freedom) to experiment between X10, X11 and even X12 core and see do they change any of your problems.

Ok, this is soooo crap.

I bought the Sandisk Ultra 32 GB, the exact same Gunnar and Renaud are using. Flashed Coffin r51. And guess what? Same problem!

I'm totally angry, frustrated and at a loss. Most likely there is something wrong with my card.

I have no idea what to do now. I should probably try to contact Majsta and send it to him for a check/ repair.

I don't see any point in experimenting with x11 and x12. If it should work on x10 and it doesn't, it means the card is faulty.

I would do some test on your side.

For example chip and fast memory test.
I think on Coffin is the memory tester tool MBRtest
