In the expansionport HowTo they use this module EXTERNAL LINK

Was wondering if the smaller one is also a good choice:

Should work, I had one but was missing a and capacitor. So didn't work correctly. The pin out will be slightly different on the silkscreen.

I guess the key thing here is be sure you get a 3.3v module.. (thanks to Lenny Rivera on FB for pointing this out to me)

the ones commonly used for the SDNET are the 5v flavor.. not recommended to run on the expansion port..

What does "Pullup 50k" mean in the remarks?

I am using the smaller one, so yes, it works. Make sure it is 3.3V. I wonder if actually the larger ones are the 5V ones.

always use 3.3 V  - never use 5V modules!

Thanks for the answers guys. I've ordered the ones in the expansion port FAQ.

ok, i have the gold2.8x11 core and coffin r49 on a 500v2+.
a 3.3v Ethernet module.
followed the pin out guide from the exp port to the module
installed SAGA1.2
downloaded the v2expeth.device_1.2.lha and got that into my A500
extracted and have v2expeth.device in devs:networks size 10,984 bytes

removed roadshow and installed genesis. controversial I know, but it works without any demo limits.

setup everything in Genesis - static IP's, netmask, default gateway, ip address, hostname...
but when I try to go online, it just sits at initializing device. I am able to cancel and try again, but if I follow the wizard to do the setup, it tries to do a BOOTP and just sits there without doing anything.

anything obvious that i'm missing?

woopsy! ignore me. I had CS and s0 round the wrong way

ok so I have flashy lights. a red light on the eth module, and link and activity lights on the network port.

just the same "initializing device" if I try to go online and a stuck BOOTP if I try to configure using the wizard

oh, and performance is crippled (comparatively). as soon as i unplug everything from the exp port, and power back on, all is well speed wise

ok so i pulled all the wires and plugged them all back in again.
no performance problems anymore, but still the IP stack not initialising the device.
it must be me doing something stupid.

From the instructions on the Wiki:
Documented pinout is for GOLD2.9 and upwards only. Do NOT use it on earlier cores.

If you have 2.9, please share :)  AFAIK it hasn't been released yet.
