Ok, so one thing I’ve been wondering is about the splash screen, or what to call it, that shows when you start the computer up. First of, could it be altered by the user somehow what picture to put there? Second, what resolution and color depth is it?

I’m thinking when you flash the FPGA, maybe you could set the image of your choice in there as long as it fits and comply to the format needed? It’s just a thought.

My point is that one who wishes to, could make their own

So far it has always been: 640x480 and 256 colors
But in theory other resolutions or Colordepth are possible.

So is it possible to replace it with other 640x 8-bit image?

The answer is not all of us like it and would like to change it.

Yea I am not an anime fan .. and some of the older suggestions/submissions actually IMHO were better, eg the Elvira and the Vampire Snow White were good.. (no offense to the artist the current one just dosent appeal to me )

Yeah fair enough. For me personally I would like to steer away from the Vampire theme and put an Amiga logo in it's place or something Amiga related.

The boot pic right now is nowhere near "anime" :P

Close enough.. but to Sean's point .. I like the more conventional Amiga logo esque thing too.. but it would be nice to be able to customize it with whatever you like/theme's with your setup.

Add me to the list of people who would like to customize their own boot up screen.  I'd love to ray trace something I made myself, on my Vampire, and proudly show it each time it powers up.

Another idea might be to enable color cycling, for simple animated pics, too!

The BootScreen can today not easily be changed.
Its part of the Core image and stored in a special format.

One could in theory make a new software tool which would allow users to replace this BootLogo. But this would be development work of several days, maybe over a week.

Flype might knows the BootScreen desing very well and might be the best developer for this. Maybe the community like to motivate him to spend the time on this? Maybe by creating a pizza fund for this week? Or maybe by funding his train ride to one AMIGA meeting next month?

Well if Flype sets up a Paypal donation page, I will be more than happy to make a donation.

Two pizzas from me, if older images are included with tool. And I hope page can be set up to accept credit card donations with and without PayPal. We could set up few things that way :-)

How about extending the donation page to the entire team. They are all doing great work. I know we can support them by buying Vampire cards, and spreading Vampire news, but i'm sure some of us would be willing to do more.

Or better to side-projects, so we separate their own effort (we are often unable to influence) from "side kick Software projects and feature updates" that require additional time, effort and thus money.

Also this fund could be used for "Vampire team donations" to people like e.g. AROS 68k developers, AmiKit X developer, HunoPPC, Hoolywood author or anyone with proven track of record and cuzrent Amiga development that would need a Vampire to be able to make 080-MMX executable.

Developers do deserve free hardware :-)

yeah but that devs deserve hardware thing... everyone would become a dev ;)

anyway, i'll +1 for that fund... even if it is just a donation pot for team pizza. :)
