ITS DELETED!

This to give you an "indication" for how important we think this topic is for us.

Expect any future request for Linux, to get deleted without notice. ;)

  This is very simple.
This forum is for information and support.

You can ask here something, then we try to answer your question.
If we tell you LINUX is not on our roadmap then you have your answer.
Writing 50 other posts about this topic and telling us how much you like Linux is just wasting ours and everyones time.

If you have to much time, then do something useful.
  For example write some programs.

Too bad (because of MMU naginng) since thread did contain info on various m68k Linuxes and ucLinux that can work.

The point of Linux was with apps - and using Vamp as generic m68k arhitecture. To rephrase the idea - how we gonna solve the "Office problem" Amiga has. Amiga writter is a good starter, but quite outdated solution.

Final Writter 2015 - any news of its progress and will there be OS 3.x binary?

Many apps on Linux are open source and may be ported. This should be the priority instead of putting a less effective OS onto the machine imho.

Doom was one of those examples

Porting any Open Office / Libre versions, just as example, is something not yet done in Amiga land. Same efectivelly goes for Netscape/Firefox. Its not about gaming, its about bringing productivity apps to the table.

Instead of massive ports (incl. lot of Linux dependencies) why not just making one decent kernel release that would use all the new goods and one optimised video driver?

APOLLO-CORE has a clear mission and this website and forum has a clear topic.
Try to understand it!

Continuous "Off topic" stuff will be deleted here to keep the focus of the website.

Maybe you should broaden that to "Any operating system depending on MMU is not on our roadmap, because the MMU of the Apollo Core is busy being the glue that keeps Vampire cards working, and hence can never be fully exposed to any operating system!"

I think you guys have had your opportunity to have your say on Linux, and you've had your questions and comments sufficiently answered. To keep banging on about the subject like infants is not "adult" in itself.

I know children who accept an answer the first time around better than you guys. You were given your opportunity to express your opinion, now give it a break.

If my posts wasnt deleted you would see that i was not talking about Linux at all..

Just so I understand correctly:

Linux is not currently part of the mandate for the Apollo team but that shouldn't dissuade another group from picking up the mantle with support from the Apollo team... rrright?

Sorta like... the FPU effort?

I have been under the wrong impression that you do know a bit about the internals of CPUs and operating systems. Obviously you don't.

Any operating system could set up the MMU to still provide the "glue" as you call it and use it for its own purposes if the OS was adapted to deal with the new MMU. But hey, there must be some dirty hidden secret and some flaw that only you are clever enough to see and not the people who merely are clever enough to develop a CPU...

So would something similar to Cygwin still require an MMU? Does it have a full Linux kernal or is it more like an API wrapper? Something like that would enable one to recompile common linux tools to run under AmigaDOS which could be very useful. I'm not thinking GUI stuff here, but mainly command-line utilities.

Perhaps this is more or less what ixemul.library provides already?

You mean GNU tools?
Like sed, grep, GCC, or stuff like APACHE, MYSQL ?

All of this works fine on AMIGA OS

You can compile this yourself, or search for
AMIGA GEEK GAGDETS,
ADE (AMIGA DEVELOPER ENVIRONMENT)

Fred Fish once initiated a lot of this
