Blog By One of the Team Members?

There was a recent discussion here regarding FPU and I think many arguments are only there because people lack informations and do not have time or interest to go in irc, that is expecially true for developers who always lack time :). So perhaps it would make sense if one the team members would create and update a blog (f.e. weekly) so it would be clear that f.e. the team is working and testing the standalone device so contributing time to FPU integration makes no sense and AGA is more important. I think that would avoid some (of course not all) problems.

As long as it is not done by an developer this is a good idea.
But would require someone that has insight into what is done behind the iron curtain :)

yes of course. Somebody like Gunnar would of course waste of time but perhaps one of the testers who is directly involved in all current developments

Think I asked about this some time ago, but since it would take up too much time it was not a focus.

But love to have a site where we could follow what is going on.

Here's an idea for you.  How about getting a life that involves more than just whining about a lack of updates regarding the Vampire?  News about the FPU and SAGA status has been clearly stated on this forum and you can wait for additional news just like the rest us instead of polluting this forum with posts like the one above.  This forum provides all the news you need regarding Vampire and the Apollo core.  If you want more info or "insider info", I suggest you ask to join the team provided you have development skills which are actually useful.

Here's what Gunnar has said about the FPU:

    To precise this:
APOLLO HardFPU is 100% identical to the 68060 FPU from instructions.
Its just not tuned for placement in Cyclone3 yet.

And there are dedicated threads for SAGA, ethernet, and other developments, but you need to actually read them!

Ah, OK.  I thought his post was another complaint about the FPU and a lack of news about Vampire developments.  I think you and the team have done a great job at keeping prospective and current Vampire users informed but it's difficult to find the latest news sometimes because of a lack of forum moderation.  Usually the latest news is difficult to find because of the many posts by the same people complaining about the lack of an FPU or the team's priorities.  I'm personally quite tired of seeing their complaints and having to scroll thru several pages of their posts to get to the real info.  Some of their comments should be removed by moderation and one or two people need to be banned outright.

I will try on thursday

@Steve Ferrell

Besides people complaining just for itself there are people complaining because they do not understand the goals of the project and have different expectations. Many people do not have time or interest to search for the informations in forum or go in IRC, that is certainly expecially true for developers who also have real life and program in spare time for fun. For those "lazy" people it would not harm to have a simple medium where they can read what developers are working on and a short explanation why, that would avoid a number of discussions that happened recently. No reason to rush and bite, it is not a good way to discuss. Majority of people are not bad so we should treat each other politely.

If he was already a team member when he made that post, then why doesn't he just create the blog that he mentions since as a team member he'd have the very information that he mentions isn't available?  Does he not communicate with other members of his "team" or does he live in a vacuum?

Again, I don't think a blog is necessary.  A blog would be redundant.  The information most people are looking for is already available in this forum.  It's just tough to find sometimes because of all the posts/complaints about the FPU status and the complaints about the current team priorities.  Some judicious forum moderation would fix most if not all the problems with the status updates/news.  The current forum is a "free-for-all" and several users have abused the rest of us because of a lack of forum moderation.

Simply posting the latest news under the "News" tab of the forum and locking the topics there would be a big help.  Then if users feel the need to make comments about the latest news and updates they can do so in the other areas.

I strongly disagree. Forum discussions are moving fast and there is a hard way to get info e.g. on current status of not only SAGA and Soft/Hard FPU, but of how to use SDNet/Wi-Fi, what is status of V1200 and Standalone, and as an example Apollo OS EXTERNAL LINK I had to find out on facebook groups.

I myself have made a double work on contacting AmigaKit on status of AmigaKit X for "Real Vampire" while it was already under testing by team. And not because I wasnt "on same route of thiking" - but because it was an issue months ago, when I wasnt member.

I also dont have interest in IRC sessions, but a clear Apollo Blog with latest developments by team alone, would be great and would turn fora to more support / less kinky discussions :-)

Modern blogging also enables comments, voting etc.

OK, locked news section here, would also be great, but blog can easily include photos and videos and be a richer source of media attention too.

I'm not sure that a blog would be the best solution to this problem, but I agree there really needs to be a focused place where information about the vampire can be gathered. I have been on IRC and have read this forum daily but still feel like I don't have all the pieces. I was installing OS3.9 a couple days ago and had to search around for a while before locating the ROM Update-patch which I have read about many times.

The problem I see with a blog is that when the blog has enough entries the same problem will arise, I think keeping the wiki up to date and filled with as much information possible would be the best solution.

the wiki should be the single source of all knowledge (roadmap Gold x G, howto, drivers firmware etc)

Kippas and Majstas pages are great, but currently have very little updated info. Also, Amiga reselers selling Vampire renders old system of personal lists and e-mails obsolete, hopefully.

Wiki pages are good-to-go and with good structure, but needs a lot of updates. Its greatly structured, and could replace proposed blog.

As example, WHDLoad tests are also with old cores, maybe just changing info on those who work with no pacthes or work now, would be welclome. More How-To`s would be great.
Roadmap section need an update >:-)

Maybe Wiki could have these sections added:
  - News
  - OS Section (How To Install OS 3.9,ApolloOS, AROS 68k)
  - Latest software section with Apollo optimized games and tools

  Good combo would be:
  - Shut down other nice looking forum, unless it is supposed to replace this one to minimize confusion
  - Kipper and Majsta pages should contain links to Wiki, Apollo accelerators main website and this forum and otherwise be their personal websites, as they are
  - Wiki should be all time updated, with just some major updates added to Apollo accelerators page. Accel page should link to fora and Wiki too ...

And that is it. Users could help with WHDLoad and some sections :-)
