Query Concerning Amiga's

I have a query concerning the actual Amiga's.

Re:  A600, A500, A1000, A1200 that have been mentioned as the phases in Apollo Core development.

None of these Amiga's have built-in ethernet for internet connectivity.

The A1200 can use the PCMCIA ethernet cards, (as I believe, the A600 can).

My question is...with the plan and progression in the Apollo core design, how is ethernet going to be provided for each of the machines ?

Perhaps someone can do a 'what is required' to bring the basic model Amiga up to a fully internet capable machine.

Also, I know there are battery and leaking capacitor issues on older machines.  Does anyone know if there is any detailed documentation to let us start working to repair those machines and have them ready for the future Apollo core releases.

Great work everyone.  Looking forward to seeing A1000, A500 and A1200 versions.

I'm in the US so don't have the A600.

PS.  I just pulled my A1200 out of storage.  My Genesis configuration is screwed up.  Can anyone send me good Genesis config files for the cnet device.  The wizard fails to configure Genesis with the card.

I can only answer the Ethernet part and that is my understanding from BigGun and from my information from him. In the future there is a plan of a sandwich upgrade to the V500 called Turbo which may include the Ethernet card you where asking for.

Can someone please confirm what I said is true? Thx.

Networking hardware is not currently part of the Vampire plans. The A500 has lots of expansion possibilities with edge connectors and socketed chips.

If you spend some time with Google and YouTube you will find plenty of info about repairing old Amigas. ;-)

FYI I think the number of working Amigas far outnumber the active users, so there's no machine shortage just yet.

As for Ethernet, the models with PCMCIA (600/1200) are easy enough to get online as are the big box Amigas. The A500 is not the easiest to connect to Internet... There are hacks obviously, from Null Modem cables connected to Raspberry Pi to more creative DIY hacks like the Plipbox that uses Arduino (Parallell port to Ethernet). There are more ways of course..

And who knows what surprises we'll se in future Vampires ;-)
