Hi All
I am trying to get VistaPro to run on the Vampire (version 3.03 fpu and non fpu) and I have no luck . Has anyone gotten it to work - Makepath and all the others run 100% but just not Vista. I run it on the Coffin OS with core 2.9

Hahaha, when I read the thread title I thought, why the hell would you want to run Windows Vista on an Amiga if it even is possible. But this is about the landscape Amiga software of course :)

So yeah...... I would indeed like to know how to get Windows Vista to run on my Vampire. Any ideas? :D

Yes!
1. Open PCtask
2. Insert windows 98 boot floppy, boot with CD
3. Have Windows Vista install disc in DVD rom.
4. Facepalm
5. Laugh at your silly attempt! :)

Let me know how it goes

I first had problems several years ago running VistaPro on my A4000D with a RTG graphics card and Workbench set to run on an RTG screen. I found the answer to getting it to work had been figured out by someone who was successful in getting VistaPro to run under OS4 on an AmigaOne. Here's the trick that works for me on my 4000 with RTG, on my OS4 machines (Sam440 and X1000) *and* on my Vampired A500.

What seems to happen is that VistaPro checks to see mode Workbench is in -- perhaps to decide if it is a PAL or NTSC Amiga. When it finds Workbench on neither, as in a RTG mode like we would tend to use on a Vampire system, the program does not run.

So go into the VistaPro executable with a hex editor and find the string WORKBENCH and change it to FAKEBENCH. Then use something like ModePro to create a screen called FAKEBENCH that is in NTSC or PAL regular mode. Then the altered VistaPro should run. Note that you do not have to actually have the Fakebench screen open up.... just needs to be defined in the database.

Or... temporarily change Workbench to an old Amiga "chip" mode before running VistaPro.

Let me know if this works for you!

Ok just went as far as using the hex editor and then just renamed the exe after replacing the workbench string. Started vistapro and it started in "old" mode - Works fine - not as fast as i hoped but faster than my 1200 with extra ram - Thanks so much for the help - Will play around a bit more and see what i can do !!

This is great I have been trying to get this to work for ages. I am curious to see it this will work on the AGA core.
