FastIDE for A600

Was FastIDE for the A600 built into Gold2.7 or is that coming in Gold3. I have not seen any reference to this for quite some time and enabling FastIDE with VControl seems to have no noticeable difference.

Interesting question. Is fastIDE possible in core 2.7?

Apparently so for the A500 V2+ going on screenshots I have seen. You can turn it off and on using VControl utility

Remember a while back there was talk of testing FastIDE for the A600 and being able to manually set the value but haven't heard anything since

fast ide works on a500 because ide connector is on the vampire card.
for a600 you're using  the motherboard normal ide connector,
so transfert speed on a600/vampire will be around 3mb/s while on the a500 it can go 4 to 5 times faster.  (don't remember exact value, saying from memory i think a500/vampire transfert speed can go up to 15mb/s or something like that, if it got better since last time i've checked, someone will correct me)

Yes, that is obvious. However as per the post linked below, they were working on implementing FastIDE for the A600 interface and were allowing some people to test it. You could program it using a poke command to adjust the speed as the ideal speed was unique to the motherboard with speeds up to 7mb/s possible. They were going to provide a tool to measure this. More information here.....

Looks like, from reading through that, one A500 it's a simple on/off whereas on a A600 you have to set a value.

Any news on this? Previous posts advise that this would be in cores 2.5+ however here has been nothing mentioned since you were looking for testers for it.

I cannot even find the apoke tool that was used nor any instructions for it to be able to test this.

Mileage varied to much on V600 to make it to the public. This functionnality is yet only available on V500.

could this be made available so we can at least try it?

Just looking through ApolloOS/Coffin and found this which may be related. Worth a try... looks like the same apoke command that was used in the FastIDE testing that took place

If $FastIDEState EQ "1"
    Set FastIDE APoke $DD1020 2
    If EXISTS ENVARC:FastIDEValue
        Run >NIL: $FastIDE $FastIDEValue
    EndIf
EndIf

Yeah same here. If its something that can be easily enabled or disabled then it can't really do any harm to try it

Is the ability to boot from the SD slot ever going to be implemented?
