[Game Idea] Assymetric Two-player Co-op In Space

Pitch: Collaborate with a friend to shoot aliens into smithereens while your co-pilot makes sure the ship stays together.

Prototype time investment: High (requires the implementation of two game engines, both Wing Commander-like and point-and-click).

Description:

The game screen is split in two. The upper part is controlled with joystick and depicts a 3D engine like Wing Commander or similar games. The lower part is a point-and-click system (Monkey Island, Simon the Sorcerer) where the player controls the crew inside the space ship to repair damage, switch modules, refuel, control shields, ammunition, what have you. Both systems are live at the same time, meaning whenever the ship gets shot or damaged, the second player must make sure it's repaired. Maybe there's a fire or a hull break, or maybe a computer gets destroyed and must be replaced. And so on.

This is an ineffective game idea in so far as it takes a lot of effort to even try it out. But, I just wanted to put it out there. The idea itself is pretty unique, AFAIK.
