@Gunnar von Boehn

Im sure its quite easy to do the cap fix, but the problem we have, that your son doesnt have; If we screw up, we dont have a spare Vampire for "free"/easily available (I know it cost you/the team money to get a new one too).
Also, you are probably able to fix whatever he does wrong IF he does a oopsie :)

Just sayin'

  As I said: I know that I have two left and shaky hands plus a defunct and deformed 2nd finger :) and therefore I won't try my luck on a ~300 € device, no matter if others can do and how old or young those others are and how easy it probably is for others.

  >main-board issue

  there may always be an issue that really apprears under strightly limited circumstances and which isnt possible to be diagnosed remotely. amiga mainboards are really pita with it.

  an example: i have an a4000 mobo reworked by an a1k professional. it has a perfect picture on rgb + 1084. but it loses sync on lower screen third when attached to my lcd tv. no other amiga that i own  has this issue. so pretty likely caps or small tolerances in parts might play a role.

and speaking of shaky hands, i know what you mean. i have damaged enough trying to fix it;) go for a professional, sure..

Yes I have reproduced it.
It also counts down too fast for me.

Daniel do you think you can "locate" the counter ASM code?

In all honesty, I think everyone should get or make their own AT/ATX psu to Amiga PSU hack devices, which as the name suggests, lets you power your Amiga with an AT PSU or sn ATX PSU.
Any and all Amiga PSUs are aging, and/or very old by now, and in many cases even dangerous for your expensive classic motherboard.

Amiga computers exist in a limited quantity today, and no more are being manufactored. It’s always a d@mn shame when one of those precious little babies leave the realm of the living, and an ATX PSU is pretty easy to come by. AT PSUs are quite old, though, and shouldn’t be used.
If anyone needs instructions on how to convert an ATX PSU, check out MsMadLemon on YouTube. I’m sure you know of her already. She has made videos on the subject

except, don't use a 500W PSU like she did, go for something small. I use a 250W SFF PSU from a Dell machine, and it's marvellous.

whatever PSU you use, check the "minimum" load it can output, when it comes to the Amiga and using an ATX PSU, the minimum load is always far more important than the maximum.

The original AMIGA PSU are all aged by now.
An aged PSU can cause a number of problems, not enough current to run stable, or ripple and spikes which can damage the Amiga.

Getting a stable good PSU is always a good idea.
But ATX PSU are not targeted for AMIGA and not all can be well used for AMIGA.

Compared to a PC, your AMIGA has a relative low load.
Your Amiga will maybe draw 15 Watt on the V5.
So you want an PSU which provides very stable 2-3 Ampere, but it should have some safety margin.

Very good would be an industry PSU which offer 5 Ampere on 5V - like a Meanwell RT 65B.

I can highly recommend Meanwell RT-50B. Works perfectly, is OK quality and is very affordable. It also fits into original PSU case if metal casing is removed from it and wiring can be done without soldering. I had random crashes and all sorts of strange stuff happening with DIGITAL-VIDEO output on V500 with original A500 power supply. It was measured and tested to be OK with classic hardware. Replaced it with Meanwell and it's rock solid now.

About A600.. I have my third A600 now, two of them I owned back in 90's and the current one I bought maybe a year or two ago. All three of them have been nothing but trouble and the ones I had back in the day, didn't survive even the 90's. This newest board is now recapped, has new IDE & keyboard connectors, it's been reflowed couple of times and had many more fixes done. Practically rebuilt the damn machine twice and it still is not stable, hates everything but 2.x roms, hates almost everything in expansion port, has keyboard and fdd controller issues, and runs so hot that after five minutes CPU will kill your finger if you dare to touch it.

I'm not saying Daytonas machine would automatically be something like I described, and I do think it's a shitty thing to populate boards with out of spec caps let alone request customer to change them by themselves, but unfortunately the reputation of A600 is a well deserved one.

@Wawa T
certainly true, and yes, I will :)

@Gunnar von Boehn
shouldn't be too hard to find, asuming that they didn't put much care into obfuscating it. I'll see that I give it a look asap, but I can't put too much time into this. So if I find it quickly, fine, otherwise bye. I'll report the result in both cases here.

@Mallagan Bellator
Thanks, but Germany :P But no worries: a close friend of mine will do the V2 recapping, I'll most likely visit him this weekend and then we'll see.

If the color-issue remains and is mainboard related, hm. Btw.: pretty much looks as if (only) the green channel becomes unstable after a certain time. After taking a closer look at the colors it's either like white/grey getting a purple tint (which simply means green too low) and / or green bars appearing (green too high). It's always per raster-line, not at arbitrary horizontal positions. Those undesired color fluctuations are "soft", so there is no hard green or purple line anywhere but more like soft jumping vertical areas being affected.

@Knight Stone
@J.M. Lapilainen
While those PSUs here were at least "refurbished" / recapped / validated so that they aren't really totally antique malfunctioning attic stuff, you're right nevertheless, a *really* fresh stronger PSU is certainly a wise choice.
And the MsMadLemon-PSU-video really looks as if even I could do it myself ;)

Thanks guys!
  i'm ordering a couple of those meanwell PSU's right now. i'm having a bit of a struggle getting my machine with a PPC card to wake up, and most likely down to PSU issues! and I've been running my vamp 500 off my only real "known good" external power brick...

oh, quick thing, how've you wired it up? i take it +2V is +12v, and what are you running the -12v to?

Please order the right version.
Both meanwell 50 and 65 are available in several voltage types.

RT-65 B
the "B" would be the model with -12 V    5V and  + 12 V    just as Amiga.

JM / Gunnar -

Thanks for the pointer on those Meanwell power supplies.

They are very inexpensive - $27 each from Mouser in Canada. :)

@Gunnar von Boehn

  Turrican 3's time is stored as BCD (of course) at 0x1752 / 0x1753 and a copy is stored at 0x175e / 0x175f (didn't investigate further, the second one seems to be used to simply detect and trigger code on time changes).
  The time decrease code looks like that:

  18ea:
  moveq #$01,D0
  mv2sr.b #$00
  move.b $1753,D1
  sbcd.b d0,d1
  move.b d1,$1753
  move.b $1752,D1
  moveq #$00,D0
  sbcd.b d0,d1
  move.b d1,$1752
  cmp.w #$10,$1752
  bge.b .bye
  moveq #$01,d0
  bsr.w it_gets_critical_countdown_i_asume
  .bye:
  rts

  Cheers,
  Daniel

@Gunnar von Boehn
And, any idea what might cause this weird T3 time issue? Shall I analyze the surrounding / calling code in more detail?

Regarding recap: visited my electronics-friend last sunday - but forgot the V2 at home. Next try this weekend ;)

Yes thank you for the dump.
The issue is fixed meanwhile, we are right now preparing the next release GOLD 2.10 including this fix.

A typo in SBCD.
The routine you posted did help us to reproduce it.

Wow, such a big one, at least regarding its impact on compatibility!

Of course I had looked around a bit more and had ruled out certain things like e.g. the sub-routine being called too often and such, but I got stuck because I also kind of ruled out a general issue with BCDs, asuming that this would have been noticed much earlier already, even though the symptoms smelled like it (due to the kind the other code works, especially considering that the numeric update is triggered on any numeric change per frame) :-)
After all BCDs are certainly used quite often, for exactly the stuff they are used here (life, scores and time) because they are so easy to display.

So I guess this fix will fix similar issues in many more games, not just T3, very nice!
