WHDLoad of Hybris With Apollo V500+ Core 2.5page  1 2

I have problem with whdload game Hybris, music in the game plays way too fast and tempo also fluctuates. I haven't found combination of settings to fix this.

Can anyone help or is this core problem?

Hybris is notorious for having timing issues on faster CPUs.

Which WHDLOAD version do you use?
Which SLAVE Version is your Hybris?
Do you run the game in Turtle Mode?

WHDLOAD 18.3.5863
slave version 2.3 (latest I could find)
turtlemode doesn't seem to make difference to music speed.

Seems to be an issue with every "above vanilla" Amiga,as Gunnar mentioned. Even WinUAE users are recommended to run it as A600/A1200 setup also.

In WHDLoad using tooltype 'ExpChip' to slow down game MIGHT help.
There are many other usefull tooltypes like nocache etc.

Please comment out the Vcontrol line from your Startup-Sequence.
Open Cli window and type: ED S:startup-sequence
  Comment the line and save.
turn the amiga off/on and try again.

  Did it change anything?

I'm running classicwb68k with wb3.1 and it doesn't have such line.

Ho!

ok! Does it have a line with "VBRcontrol ON" somewhere?
Startup-Sequence or User-Startup?
If so, comment it out and try :-)

Can anyone even confirm that its not just my setup?

Hello Jarkko,

That HYBRIS timing code has problem on faster CPUs is a known fact.

Maybe it would make sense that you open a bug on the WHDLOAD webpage and report this issue again?

To lower the CPU speed, WHDLOAD should DISABLE the CACHEs and VBR should be in chipmem.

Hi Jarkko, It's exactly the same on my V2+ system too. As everyone has mentioned, it appears to be a common problem with this particular game on any fast system.

My friend just confirmed that it works on with 060/50Mhz, but that doesn't count as faster system?

Several people have been gently trying to inform you that the Apollo/vampire team have other more more important priorities at the moment which don't include the video game Hybris, but you're apparently not taking the hint.  Some games and apps will NEVER run properly on an accelerated Amiga and this is most likely one of them. The team has more important things to address than troubleshooting a poorly written game that only you seem to be concerned with.  They can't be expected to drop what they're doing and focus on every game that runs poorly.

  You have 5 options.

  1. Get an un-accelerated Amiga
  2. Run the game in WinUAE as suggested.
  3. As suggested, contact the WHDLoad maintainers(s) and see if they have a solution
  4.  Remove the Vampire from your existing Amiga when you want to play Hybris
  5. Do nothing and/or play a different game.

Pick an option and go with it.

All I just wanted to know that what is this so called faster system that its known to fail.

If I go bug WHDLoad team with vague raport they just point finger on vampire, atleast I would :)

I'm sorry but my autism just cannot accept answer without something more solid than "its known to". Who knows and where I can read more about it.

Jarkko,

Here you can find the manual of WHDLOAD.
EXTERNAL LINK
I know that WHDLOAD HYBRIS was reported on some forums to run to fast on many system, other accelerators and UAE.

I would recommend that you set the following parameters
NoCache

WHDLOAD typically does patch bugs in games, but you as user will in addition need to configure WHDLOAD according to your system.
E.g. on a fast CPU you will need to add parameters like NoCache.

I don't know if the system that you use is already fully configured like this. Btw did you try out APOLLO-OS?
As far as I know the people which did setup APOLLO-OS did put create care to pre-configure all these thinks properly.

If your problems continue then I would recommend that you go to this webpages:
EXTERNAL LINK  And go there to the MANTIS bugtracker link, and then you describe your problem and your configuration.

I know that the WHDLOAD developers have Vampires themselves they might be able to give you more information.

Thank you for good reply without so much negativity in it which can be seen on forums these days..

I have already tried to debug this with all whdload options I can imagine and tried it with my other Amiga hardware and as a last resort I arsed myself to ask here :)

I'll try Apollo-os next and do bother WHDLoad people next if the problem persists.

With apollo os 34p Hybris seems to be running just file.

I checked whdload configs and didn't see anything special there so it must be something else that messes it up.

But it works ok now, I would have hoped that someone just would have told me that, no negativity needed..

The most important thing is that Hybris works, don't let a couple of harsh comments bring you down :)
Now you could try to find out what's the magic in ApolloOS that makes if work!
