OK, benchmark wanking. Just to adjust the perspective, WinUAE with JIT 68040 on a Core i7 4770@3.5GHz.

Back in 1992 I had to decide how to spend my money on a new computer. My C64 became outdated and I had to decide Amiga or PC. An Amiga was cheaper, but I noticed that the number of games in the stores grew for the PC and declined for the Amiga. So I took a PC for twice the price of a well equipped Amiga. I did not care of benchmarks, it was the number of new games which I wanted to play. I followed the game software developers and this is the case everytime a new system appears. Gunnar, show me new software for the 68080, this will impress me more than benchmarks.

If this was a car and Gunnar was fixing and optimizing the engine and all around performance, would you demand of him to come up with better roads or nicer leather seats?

Others are supposed to be inspired to create or improve in these areas. I don't remember Commodore creating much software.

Look where Commodore is today.

quote of Gunnars HP : "I wrote numerous general applications for many operating systems"

Successful hardware needs software. PowerPC Amigas failed because the lack of software supplies. I understand why Gunnar emphasize the 68k performance of the Apollo Core compared to the PPC Amiga 68k emulation. User need software and this is the weak point of PPC Amigas. The offer of games and applications is much bigger for 68k. Most games are for Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200, exclusive games for Amiga with accelerator cards do not exist except some ports nowadays.

Well, you missed a lot of Amiga titles. Surely, from gamers perspective, your choice was right.

You do understand this is kind of hardware development phase with software trying to exploit it?

So far I know of MiniBench, SAGA drivers, Core itself and one setting tool (produced by team) and 1942 AMMX and a demo.

3rd party addons are ApolloOS, adopting AmiKit, adopting AROS 68k Riva player and few enhanced 68k ports.

I am pretty sure you understand real development needs real software houses. SAme nowadays crisis as with OS4 ecosystem.

What is potential is much larger interest, improved speed in 68k area and yes, first real development of Amiga since 1992 AGA chipset.

If you wish a lot of software stick with consoles and Windows. Never even try Linux, AROS, FriendsUp, OS/2, BeOS or any other x86 OS that simply has less software and games.

That is far more then happened with OS4 in same period, which is comparable. MacOS X or Windows market simply isnt.

Most people that purchase things like the vampire look to run old software, new software is great and there a bunch of ports to play but that is another issue. Asking for new software in great quantity to justify its cost against a modern pc is just nuts.

If somebody want new games just go a purchase a ps4 or something like that, don't lost your time here.

Exactly, all the games available for Amiga and all the other systems , retro and new.
Not enough?

Commodore didn't go under due to limited software development but a lot of software companies may have due to piracy. Yes, the sin that dare not speak it's name.

Floppy simply as media could not be copy protected, and piracy wasnt that widespread before the Internet to sink companies down.

I am sure they have simply seen that PC is growing gaming market and shifted. I am sure for example, Team 17 and Bullfrog could develop few more titles for expanded Amigas, but simply market was too small as well as that their major Amiga titles sold well. Also having no more basic hardware development (by CBM) is sure death. As we know, none of the Escom/Amiga Inc sucessors really produced new hardware.

As opossite fact, even late Amiga titles were sold to make it at least profitable due to Amigans loyalty. But surely not as profitable as in Amiga 500 games.

Problem with piracy, is that even today, it isnt a direct loss. It doesnt mean same person would really be able to afford/willing to buy it (user of pirated software). As opossite argument, piracy did aided for people to test and learn software and test game quality, counting countries were no magazines and legal sales were avail (e.g. East Europe).

That doesnt mean I support piracy, but it does mean I understand it cannot kill a quality product on wide enough market.

Thus I prefered, SHAREWARE/TRYWARE market. Try it, enable advanced options by direct payement. And it never failed. And some of best Amiga apps were made that way.

Is this the spirit of Amiga today ?
Old men sitting in front of a fireplace and repeating stories about the good old times. The desk with their Amiga system is the shrine of their goddess and they sacrify her some upgrades to keep her favourable. Dancing around some benchmark results as a tribe to forget the pain of the lost battle decades ago against the evil enemy having better hardware.

I thought the mantra  was "Only Amiga Makes It Possible"
Showcase that it does not need GHz and Gigabyte to have a good computer. The apollo/vampire reunites all 68k Amiga systems with the same performance and features. It does not need to run Crysis, make it the indie game platform for 2D games. Fun to play and good enough for the daily tasks of Joe Average.

Hi Markus,

No, the fight is NOT over!!!!!

But, we needed a TOTAL UPGRADE, like in the cartoons (in particular, Power Rangers) when they always get the better armour/weapons, as the enemy increases in strength!!!!

UNTIL we get that into our grubby little hands, all bets are off!

Then we'll get some ACE coders returning, because what we have IS BETTER!!!! (We have very few now.)

Results will speak (literally, in some cases) for themselves!!!!

AMIGA --->Vampire F.T.W!!!!!!!

I can also emphasize that team apollo/vampire did a great job and offer the best overhauling (to keep the cars metaphor ) for the 68k Amiga hardware (and the Amiga OS with driver support of course). But the fanboys keep pushing these guys to do even faster hardware in a (my opinion rude) way i dont like. Demanding ASICs and GHz clock rates are solving any problems (except appease a wounded ego of the amiga tribe). Become creative with your boosted Amiga. Program new games/applications, draw some pixel art, compose music, do whatever you like and share it with the other amigans. A computer is not a servant who fulfills your workload, its a tool YOU work with. Do not measure your achievements with a billion dollars industry but with your improvements over time. Thats the thing you can be proud of. Kudos and honour goes to the maker of Apollo/Vampire, they keep improving their astonishing work every day. Now make them proud by using their baby in a creative way instead of bullying them by saying "make it faster, still not good enough". Perhaps this is the reason why Gunnar is posting a lot of benchmarks to harvest some appreciation for his hard work. A benchmark battle will frustrate everybody. Vampire not fast enough to get the respect of the community , Amiga not fast enough to beat the arch enemy PC to satisfiy the amigans.

I want, I want, I want ...
I want unicorns vomiting rainbows and pooping glitter.

How will YOU participate to make it possible for the amiga ?
Or are there any spoiled kids demanding the impossible ?

You think your demands are achiveable, then do it !

I must say that if I had a vampire, I would be creative with it. But I don't have one.
I love this project though

Also, yes it's fast and aewsome as it is, and the future of the vampire might be on ASIC. Gunnar said so himself.
While reading the amusing story of grumpy old men by the fireplace, mourning a lost war decades ago (btw, hey... it's not lost yet! We still breathe!!) I actually realized that if the core does go ASIC and can provide higher frequencies, and put let's say 8 gigs of ram (ddr3) then perhaps even world of warcraft could be ported to such a machine

Ok, I realize that I'm dreaming, but some dreams actually come true. And this time I'm actually serious. I was honestly kidding about Zelda breath of the wild, though I totally love that game, and world of warcraft.

What made me think of world of warcraft was that Blizzard entertainment started on the Amiga, as Interplay,

That's right, folks. Blizzard made "The lost Vikings" and Battle chess", while they were still Interplay.

Some of the guys at Blizzard today, started their carrer on the Amiga, and I am sure the Amiga still has a big place in their hearts.

Alright, emotions of nostalgia are over ;)
The fight is NOT over! Not yet ;)

You simple didn't get what I wanted to say, it was not a demand, just an answer on statement that there is no need for new software.

Lol, chill out man. You'll pop a vein, it's not good for you

Some things wished for are just wishful thinking, or even jokes. Don't take it so seriously.

Now, on a more serious note. Everyone who buys a vampire DOES contribute.
1. By paying money to everyone involved in the team
2. By being potential (and very likely) customers of said software

Now take a chill pill and relax

Battle Chess will also benefit from the faster CPU on the Vampire.  No waiting while the computer decides it's best move.
