Hello everyone.

I'm impressed by the works the team  have done.

I check the website daily now :-)

It is possibile to have some V4 performance/demo here?
I would really like to see v4 in action.

Some months ago Renaud posted a vidoeo of a Vampirev4 booting with some sysinfo tests
EXTERNAL LINK  That's all for the moment.

I saw this, but doesn't show how V4 is powerfull compared, I.E., with the V2

My understanding is there isnt much performance difference between them, its more that the V4 has additional features like more ram, extra expansion ports, USB and networking built in by default.

As ApolloCPU no, its same thing. What v4 should offer is:
    - A bit pimped frequency, somewhere x12-x15 I would guess. Demoed core was x11
    - Full hardware FPU
    - Doubled CPU caches
    - Fully detailed Apollo MMU with dual kickstart
    - Faster DDR RAM fully utilizing new mem controller, also mapping 512MB of FAST RAM and with core3 mapping 2-8MB FAST RAM as CHIP RAM
    - Possibly faster IDE
    - Standardized USB and LAN
    - A lot of room in FPGA for more!
    - Standalone Release! Finally!

Kind of Vampire Deluxe, but not much much more then v2 has. Maybe overall performance boost could be 20-30% to x11 v2, more only in heavy FPU apps.

An interesting old promise was "- GOLD 2.7 core will be available for Vampire V2 500, V2 600, and V4 " Which means that current core is first step on v4 road, at least for 500/2000/600 even A1200. Standalone needs at least core 3.

Also, current 2.8 generation USB and LAN drivers could be used as basis for v4 ones. So it looks more like a nice evolution.

Thank you for summarize.

Any demo, btw?

I wonder if there will be a point in using anything else than Gold 3 and beyond that once those cores have been released

As far as the V2 boards go there probably isn't room for a hardware FPU and AGA both in the same core, if so Vampire 2 users will need to choose between gold 2.x and gold 3.x depending on the features they want. For some Vampire accelerator owners there may be other reasons to use cores that don't "replace" the Amiga chipset (it's not clear if it will be possible to configure which parts of the chipset will be used and if it is that may need a reboot to make a clean switch each time, I'm only guessing here though).

We dont know that exactly (even its likely due to v2 FPGA limits), however currently Vampire is likely to completely take over the chipset and there is no way to make a "clean switch". Idea of Vampire is smart replacement with highest possible compatibility, but that isnt perfect.
