This looks very nice.
Nostalgic feeling :-)

Who did develop this emulator?

Yes, most games working really good. I think, Amiga 68k version is from Frank Ville in year 2004.

Here some info - EXTERNAL LINK

Cool info.
How is the play speed compared to real ST ?

I think speed emulation is near 100% classic Atari ST. I tried more colorful games such as: Stunt Car Racer, Chuckie Egg 2, Moon Patrol, Road Blaster, Joe Blade ... and working swiftly.

Here is a photo of some testing program - Quick Index v2.2:

To see how cool it really is, you must try scene demos which do overscan and digi audio and tricks like that
- sowatt
- dark side of the spoon
- union demo
etc.
- and spektrum 512 painter

Hmm.... I've always thought that STonAmiga needed FPU.

We have an FPU solution with the core 2.7 Beta

What would an FPU be used for, when the ST to emulate does not have one?

I believe that in the nineties, when a port of unix was made to our platform and a 040 was required, it was understood that everyone had a real 040 with fpu, in fact I think that no 040 or 060 accelerator was ever sold for Amiga in the ninety without fpu. so they just compiled the ports for fpu even though it was not used, really if you think about it, it was logical, everyone had fpu in their 040, why bother removing it?

That's why many things do not work (especially ports) in the thousands of users that we have vampire. :(

Why not run FEMU?, then all this works.

But I do not understand what ST ATARI has to do with 68040 CPU or UNIX.

Well not every 68040 had an FPU, but that is beside the point...

There is a Full HW FPU solution on the Vampire V4, there is a HW+SW hybrid solution on the V2 vampires coming in Gold 2.7 core update. It's still faster than anything made by Motorola in 68000 series range even overclocked.

Here are videos of this Beta core doing FPU things:

While UNIX port needed an FPU, ports of UNIX software didnt.

Ston does not need an FPU (Aminet readme).

This port requires CyberGfx or Picasso96 for graphics and the AHI
system for audio (can be disabled).

However, it does NOT emulate ST chipset perfectly.

"It is quite fast and works very well with clean applications, and
even with some of the "hardware-banging" games, but the hardware
emulation is not perfect."

STonAMIGA is like UAE.
Its a complete system emulation, it emulates both the CPU and the chipset.

The minimum requirement is x86 @ 100MHz.
That VAMP plays it nicely show the speed of the VAMP.

One could of course review the emulation here.

For example this emulator does emulate the ATARI screenmodes in software - which is not even needed as we can do them in HW.

Also the HW 68080 CPU is more compatible to 68000 and more bug free, than the software 68k-CPU emulation used in this package.

I am just quoting our StonX port readme.

However, looking at original StonX page
EXTERNAL LINK
Emulation is quite feature complete, even Hatari is partialy based on it.

x86 version does require 486DX4-100 to emulate Atari ST 100%.

I wonder could just Chipset emulation be somewhat moved to EmuTOS/FreeMINT  offering full backward compatibility at less penalty there.

For ApolloOS/AmigaOS use, what we have should be good enough.

It looks like STonAMIGA can nicely be used to play ATARI games.
Nice feature is that all game output is on DIGITAL-VIDEO.

The Emulator could be speed up a little as the GFX format conversion can be skipped on SAGA.

Does anyone like to work with us on tweaking it?
