Amiga 600 Vampire V2 Rev 2.2

Hi all,

Hope you had a great start into this week!

I have an Amiga 600 and installed succesfully the Vampire V2 card. I got it running with the Workbench 3.1 and installed the Saga drivers so it shows on my HD screen in high resolution when changing to respective resolution.

I'd like to try out AROS as the next step but have no real clue how to get it running :)

Currently booting from CF card connected to the IDE port of the Amiga 600. I have a 4Gb card sitting there. Would it run from the SD card as well? I know it is not bootable but could I boot it from the Workbench when in the SD card slot? Otherwise I am happy to boot it from the CF card as well!

Any starting point or even better instruction would be highly appreciated!

Thanks and regards,
kuLLe

Hi there. Welcome to the forum.

If you're wanting to attempt to boot from the SD Card you could try Vampire Boot found here:

Kudos KuLLe for wanting to try AROS.  AROS is proving to be a killer alternative for Vampire owners and if you have seen the videos circulating on YouTube, you will have seen that it already looks feature complete.  It is however still a work-in-progress.

Currently there is a problem with booting on Vampire V2.  This is still be investigated by both the Apollo Team and the AROS developers.  We have sent one of the AROS developers an A600 with a V2 to help them track down the problem.

We will write here when this topic has progressed.

In the mean time, AROS works on the V4.  There are still some internal works going on around this though.

Thanks both of you for the fast replies :)

Just to make sure @Ronnie. Currently there is no way to get AROS working on my Vampire A600 V2 card, correct?

I did play around a bit with Vampire boot. Got it running so far.

Take care and have a great rest of your week!

Hello!  I booted aros several times on the amiga 600 with vamp v2. if you are lucky after 10/15 reset it could start.  if you want to try I recommend the 2.12rc3 core.  the advice is to wait for updates of the aros kickstart.

That is actually very valuable information.  One theory is that that AROS doesn't boot because of some small timing issue.  Your description certainly fits that theory.

I haven't tried booting AROS on an A600.  Only on an A500.  Until now, AROS never worked for me on an A500.
