Dear users,

the team is working on the next CORE update which should be available soon.
The core update will give improved features, especially AMMX upgrades
to accelerate H264 video, SDL sprite operations, and complete AMMX to enable OpenCL.

An complete instruction list overview with examples is prepared to be ready for the release.

Awesome news!  Thanks Gunnar!  Will 2.7 bring any of the next gen features most of us are salivating over ie., 4MB Chip RAM, Pamela, etc.?  Or will 2.7 serve mostly as an "under the hood" update?

Thanks for this update. Hope to release it soon to test more stuff under the hood. Do we have an AGA experience under 2.7?

I'd like to point out that the additional AMMX instructions are quite generic and apply to a wide variety of Vector and Matrix operations.

2.7 will not be an AGA core.

GOLD2.7 will be the final step before GOLD3. It will bring all new CPU updates since GOLD2.

While news is good, it wasnt really necessary.

It's good to have AMMX instructions set growing, but saga over hdmi and Pamela and aga seems like higher order of priority to end users. If end releases will be delayed, don't net promote them or even you tube show them by beta testers. Do your work and release it

I doubt releasing a core will steal much time (correct me if Im wrong). It will give youtubers (and users) time to test the core, and report back faults/bugs while the team keeps working towards 3.

Sounds like a good idea to me :)

Never liked idea end users as beta testers. Maybe bad experience with OS4 sw and hw >:-)

That is what beta testers are for, even we have to wait some more.

Looking forward to v3 core. Will v4 have v4 core release? >:-)

"accelerate h264 video" ?
i wan't aware it was possible to play h264 videos on 68k amigas ?
what's the player being used for that, mplayer ?

anyway, good news, congrats for all the progresses.
best wishes for the 2.7 releases

Technically isn't H.264 still under patent/licensing restrictions? It's more widely available for free these days as Cisco released binary files for some platforms paying the royalties required. They also released open source code but if you build a H.264 decoder royalties would still apply. Whilst coders on the Apollo Core are unlikely to attract too much attention from the lawyers yet it's still a tricky area.

mplayer is a bit heavy and too much GNU dependancies, Likely it's an updated version of Riva as it's done all in assembly utilizing the AMMX features.

This 2.7 release sounds cool and makes a lot of sense.

This exposes new CPU instructions ahead of time and gives developers a head-start on working with AMMX.

In addition this reduces the size of the 3.0 release. More frequent releases are a good thing.

Very cool to see considerations were made to help accelerate H.264 and OpenCL code.

On the topic of H.264 decoding, I believe it is royalty-free for under 100,000 units per year? At least based on this link: EXTERNAL LINK
Update: Here is the official licensing info from MPEGLA: EXTERNAL LINK

Fantastic news Gunnar and Apollo Team. Thanks for all the time you are putting in.

2.7 will be flashable from the OS right?
I hope it doesn't require a USB blaster.

1 more step closer to Gold 3 Yay! My A1000 is here sitting on the desk lid off waiting to have the Vamp swapped out from the A500. Sweating on the 4MB Chip Ram capability 8-)

Is this announcement correct? OpenCL?  Did you mean OpenGL?

We don't like using the end users as beta testers too, that's why we are testing as much as possible the core in the team before releasing them, and tha'ts why it take some time :-)

don't worry about the Gold3, it is on a good way. But the AGA integration is a big work, therefore in the meantime, the 2.7 will bring you the latest finalised features.
