I'm thinking in buying v4 for some of my amigas but not all of them have Kickstart rom 3.1.
It's still needed to have one to use the vampire?  Do I need to buy a 3.1 rom or the vamp has its own one?

Thanks so much for this wonderful machine.

The Vampire has a built-in kickstart. You don't even need to have the kickstart roms installed in your machine.

Great!
But Was not it necessary to send the rom image to demostrate you have them or samething like that?

Better if I dont have to buy it.
Thanks.

Hi Javier,

You can use AOS
1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3
2.0, 2.05, 2.1
3.0, 3.1, 3.5, 3.9

and after starting AOS
Atari Emu TOS
Apple MacIntosh OS (68K versions)

on the Vampire 2 and 4 hardware. Also, all (regular) kickstarts.

Yes back in the v1 days or so, when there was no Vampire ROM.

Now, you dont really need to buy it.

But if you have images, you can use new mapROM feature to load
any of them depending on your needs (games, OS).

Yes, so whether or not you have it already is irrelevant since it is not required and not even used.

Ok. It's clear now. So... If I buy a vampire then I'm a legal owner of a 3.xx kickstart rom. Very interesting. Thanks!!!

KS 3.1 specifically. People might get confused and think it has the 3.X version that Cloanto released not long ago, however that version is broken and you wouldn't want to use it. :)

Does a prototype V4 A1200 version exist? Would be nice to see pics!!

Its the same card you see in other v4 thread just add A1200 connector.

Surely, I do understand you would love to see A1200 V4 Vampirized, but it seems we will all have to wait and at about similar times we wul live to see Vampirized A500/A6000/A1000/A2000 with AGA as well as mighty A1200/possibly CD32/A3000/A4000 ... and also Standalone, which is same card with connecrtors n usb drivers and USB and DB8 connectors. Really nice, simple and clean solution, hope it works as planned. Add v3 core ready for this Vampires and more FPGA space for future, really mature products. Not that it is bad to be such ginie pig >:-)

My understanding of Q4 17/Q11 roadmap is: *noty officially confirmed

2.7 core
    - Bugfixes and speedups
    - Faster memory controller
    - MMX2 instructions
    - IDE speedons
    - Improved FEMU and some FPU instructions in v2 core resulting
in overall FPU compatibility of 882 performance
    - MapROM feature

    3 core

    - AGA on OCS/ECS/anyvamp
    - Improved Sound Chip
    - Up to 8MB Chip RAM
    - Unified AGA/RTG/Audio over DIGITAL-VIDEO
    - SDCard boot, finally!
    - Wi-Fi drivers, maybe?

v4 Vampire exclusives to come (all past included)

    - Full blown ApolloFPU
    - More Cache, higher CPU freq resulting in V2 +20% performance
    - DIGITAL-VIDEO Amplifier nulling resolution change problems
    - Fast DDR3 RAM
    - USB+DB9 on Standalone
    - Ethernet controller
    - Dual Kickstart
    - More space for even more features, incl. full 060 compatibility

What would be truly awesome, is if the standalone would have all the classic ports, like Parallell, Disk drive, RCA audio connectors and so on. Maybe even RGB for use with those monitors, and the FPGA would be socketed and able to be replaced with future FPGA, or even ASIC, so that one could always upgrade the same standalone computer.
Mayde even a DDR3 module socket prepared so you could upgrade the RAM with future cores....

Thoughts? :)

Classic ports would add expense for something many people would never use. 23 Pin D-Type connectors for RGB and external floppy are very expensive if you can find them. You need to include protection and level shifting circuits too. Floppy drives are a dead technology so you'd have to use old drives. Modern peripherals like printers and web cams don't support the classic parallel or serial ports. If you want to use classic hardware then it should be with a classic Amiga with or without a Vampire accelerator, not on the standalone. If there's any demand for floppy drives on the standalone for example it should be done by means of an add on adaptor if possible and not as a standard part of the motherboard.

Creating some kind of FPGA board connector (they are BGA packages so can't use a socket) would add complexity with no guarantee of viable upgrade paths (all those Intel CPU sockets become rapidly obsolete as technology changes).

RAM modules create problems with compatibility which need lots of resources to solve.

V4 is the future and not the past. You want classical port, disk drive, etc that is where your classical Amiga+v2 comes in effect. You have what you wanted already.

V4 is for the future. AROS+new hardware ports+SD+etc. That is V4.

I don't remember the last time I used the parallel, serial, disk drive, composite port O_O. When the final core is released with all the features..the rgb port is also going out the window lol

Well there will be a V4 for the V500/2000 and A1200 as well.

I also moan about no PS/2 and SATA, but design is what it is.

Maybe a limited "expander card" could be done and people are realistic. I have a Catweasel and Floppy on A1-x1000 and yet I use ADFs. For parallel and serial its hard to find use, since we use no modems anymore and I have to go all the wayback to HP LaserJet 6P in my cellar to get use of one of them. All audio outpout will go to DIGITAL-VIDEO, so that eliminates RCA.

I do undesrtand people would love to keep their Amiga toys, but then itsvetter (as advised) to buy v4 for A500/600/1200 and have it all.

Yeah. I agree on most parts, tbh. I was more thinking of disk drives, to be able to adf old floppies. More for the old nostalgic feel, as well as not needing to download all images if you have the floppies. I like stuff like that. Also, RCA are useful, since you can easier use them to record music onto tape, if you use this method to make music

Dude everything you asked for already exist. Combine V4 and classical Amiga and you have disk drive and all legacy port.

But for standalone v4 it is a complete different beast. It is targeted for the future and not past.
