I have ordered the parts just wondered where the driver is for this device?

EXTERNAL LINK
also i have ordered

EXTERNAL LINK
can you use microsd card at same time or just network or microsd on its own?

The description of the video says:
Some simple tests focused on transf. speed.

The Sdnet functionality is to be included on the next Vampire Core

So maybe Gold 3.

The speeds in the video are slower than a plipbox, possibly due to the Internet connection. The thread at EXTERNAL LINK lists much higher speeds.

Neither the driver, nor the schematics are currently released to the public. One of the reasons is missing low-level support in the currently shipped ROM.

Another reason concerns MicroSD breakouts. Many of these breakout boards being sold around the net are not suitable for the SD-slot on the Vampire. They're too thick and/or built without tapered edges and will almost certainly destroy the SD-slot. This happened to some people already. Not all of them were able to repair the SD slot on their own.

Especially the breakout you've chosen to buy is a prime example for ill-suited parts. And no, SD-Card and Network won't work at the same time.

what microsd breakout board do you recommend?

Nice. Is boot from SD expected soon?

While this is great, I would still not want to tie up my SD slot for network, id rather find some other alternative like an ESP and keep my SD card for storage.

I tend to Agree Eric.

I have only had my Vampire on the A500 for 1 Week and I am over the moon with it. Thank you so much to ALL the team for all the great work on the Vampire HW and the Apollo core.

I would prefer to keep the SD slot for a second HDD (Especially for Backups)

But great work with SDNet so far.

Are there plans moving ahead to use the other expansion port on the Vampire for a dediated Full Speed Network interface?

I reckon everyone would jump at that 8-) (I know I would. 8-)
Probably needs some Uber smart programmer to write drivers I suppose 8-)

Someone a while back teased a photo of a Vampire v500 with an ESP8266 module connected .. so maybe there is a good chance for an alternate to the SDNET option, (if not an ESP module then some other) but I would certainly be ok with that for an alternative.

Hi Eric,

Yep that would be sweet, but of course it would require Drivers and tools to get it onto a Network etc. There must be some keen Programer out there! 8-)

Its unfortunately not me, sure wish it was 8-(

Seems like cheapest Wi-Fi around.
  EXTERNAL LINK
Could support be included (as software supported) with next Vampire tools, for some standard Amiga TCP/IP 68k stacks as well as offered by sellers at that time selling Vampires? Or support included in some future AROS 68k? It seems it has its own TCP/IP stacks so I suppose OS 3.x or AROS should just be "made to use it"?

Idea is to get a standardized "Wi-Fi" solution for all Vampirized systems, as current cards, as I suppose also could extend to standalone.

Cost/Efficients, it seems to work, it fits Vampire v2, and as I read it is "offloading all Wi-Fi networking functions from another application processor" which is great for such a cheap h/w

That would eliminate need to PCMCIA and other net solutions on A600, as well as on A500 and might bring "Internet acess out of box for standalone".

Note that in user comments, power supply issues have been detected as well as differences in models based on suppliers/modifications
e.g. so it would be best to have one source of component, and best its integrated by Apollo team or dealers, hardwarewise.

"The module is very picky about power. I recommend powering this with a dedicated power supply. I also recommend using a dedicated power supply along with filtering capacitors to ensure that the power is steady. When I finally got the modules to communicate, there were numerous resets. Good jumper wires and good connections to the breadboard along with filtering capacitors solved the problem."

Hi Vojin,

something like that would be ideal with the right drivers. Interesting it uses AT command set. Sounds similar to WiModem for C64, in which case it would be a serial device rather than SANA-II Ethernet directly.

Or am I just stupid?

Hi Keith,

  Hardware side:

Wasnt much of "hardware moder" back in the days, or even nowadays (can add cards and assamble PC by try to avoid direct soldering and modifications), less even coder.  My understanding is that it provides basic Wi-Fi recieve, even it uses modem commands. If it can anyhow provide 10Mbps Wi-Fi, or ethernet 10MBps port for standalone and as add on to Vampire, that would be great solution for needs of today.

  Software side:

Ibrowse on OS 3.x to my surprise can open several modern websites,
  http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=41893&forum=2#798199
so all hopes on Ibrowse 2.5 :-) YAM can download Gmail too, chat, FTP ... were always great and supported on OS3.

Surely AROS 68k has OWB and gives us HTML5 out of box.
Is updated Odyssey avail for AROS 68k?

Whatever SDNet is (Net over SD card, but if it takes the whola SD card, whats the point of fast transfers) it is introduced with beta core GOLD 2.5, and surely will go public with GOLD 3.

I see other options for WiFi might be

Do It Yourself PiplBox
EXTERNAL LINK
WiFi232 offering BBBS access and might get tweaked to offer
fake dialup over WiFi
EXTERNAL LINK
Demoed by modern Vintage gamer on AtariST, old good BBS days
EXTERNAL LINK  (mine local fav was FONOC - FEAR OF NO CARRIER)

Whichever solution brings either Ethernet or WiFi to Classics best and inexpensively, I am good with it, but would like to see one or two standardized solutions.

On SDNet - Can we know what can be expected soon and what is max expected?

Just realized there was an alternate (and sexy looking) Vampire forum. So instead of us migrating there, I see team told us about SDNEt:

Strange things do happen. I wonder what that sdnet.device actually means. Who in a sane state of mind would use an SD slot for networking?

Seriously, the 10 MBit/s Ethernet adapter works over the SPI of the Vampire SD slot right now. The driver is operational and several people of the team have built their own adapter cable. The next Apollo Core Release will include the ROM part of the software stack I make use of (vampire.resource).

Hi, we are in the early stage of this project, it is to early to say what speed we can achieve at the end. Currently we are runing at 400 KB/s, but the speed can be inproved. It's work well and it's reliable. Bax have done a fantastic work on this, but it's only the begining.

Hi Vojin,

Yeah I have seen those posts, and to be honest they are part of what leads to the confusion.

Its cool stuff for sure, but really I would rather be using the SD Card slot for Well..... and SD Card 8-)

Surely a Similar thing can be done by someone with the right skills to utilise the other Expansion port on the Vampire. Isn't that SPI and hence Arduino capable as as well?

If someone in the team wants to point us to a known GOOD Arduino device that will connect to that port that we can order, then I would buy one today. But from the text it would seem that no-one has built drivers for such a device as yet. 8-(

Well, since they support fast Amiga IDE, its one solution (temporary one), nice and inna modding and hacking stylee.

Yes, I would prefer driver for a devices for that small pin based expansion port once introduced. At least in my mind that means more permanent solution.

But then I imagine having a small team of few people - it cannot be pushed. By order of priority I would imagine SAGA over DIGITAL-VIDEO, Pamela 16-bit sound, Wi-Fi and then V1200 and Standalone as order of priorities, FPU would sadly come last.

Hi,

Oh yeah absolutely agree. 8-).

Looking fwd to the 4MB chip RAM though as well. Then I might move my Vampire over to the A1000 8-)

yes i have to sand down my breakout board has microsd section was too think, about an hours of sanding it down.
